Battlefield 3 announced

Did anyone else notice the drone in the video? I think that would be a pretty neat addition if you could actually control one, i.e for disarming MCOM's.

Here's a pretty funny .gif someone made of it:

There's a robotics company a few towns over from me, incidentally the same town as the youtube video posted by Arwin for 3D Printing technology, called iRobot, who has a withstanding military contract and are responsible for supplying troops with an IED disposal drone called "The Warrior." I think adding one of these drones as a feature of BF3 would really heighten the realism.

Anyway, everything I saw at Gamescom was awesome, ranging from the co-op gameplay, which even looked great on a PS3, to the jets.

Production of BF3 is coming along magnificently. Thanks DICE for answering my prayers!

*edit* Apparently, the bot has been confirmed as an actual addition, according to the fact sheet posted on PBF:

What I like about the drone is that it chips the barrier when it crashes into it. Will you be able to drive a tank at high speed and smash through a concrete barrier/wall? I hope so.

So... Who's got a link to the highest quality 1080p version of that last trailer? The youtube version is too compressed.

Holy crap. I hope my 6970 can handle this at 1080p @ 60fps, I really didn't want to buy another one or upgrade so soon. :|

My favourite part is the cavalry advancing through the hills with the heli doing a close fly-by: "Give me a ride!". Also, bomb-disposal drone banging against the cement block, heh. Damnit, I wish this thing had ETQW's turrets.

For a ~64 player map, I think the CPU performance should be more of a concern. ;)

Unless DICE "learns" from Crytek and stuffs every single concrete slab with 100K polygons each.

After examining a few of the latest shots on PBF, I noticed that a few of the enemies, some vaguely visible, appear to don MEC attire, at least they don't look very Russian, according to the previously released renders of the SPECACT Russian kits.

If you look in the background, a few characters appear to be wearing some very MEC-esque attire:

Take a look at the people in the middle of the image, coming from behind the blue car:

Now compare it to a render of an MEC engineer from BF2:

And:

Perhaps these stills were taken from the SP campaign? But it leaves me wondering whether or not the MEC will be a playable faction, because I'm relatively certain they haven't been officially announced.

We'll have to have MEC for Karky and Kubra, surely?

That trailer was stunning by the way. I wasn't all that impressed until I saw the HQ video. Wow.

Wow that looked amazing. Somehow the music in the video reminded me of Terminator a bit but with so much going on in every frame, it's staggering to think the kind of cpu/gpu horsepower will be needed. I beter start saving up for my upgrade!

Correct, they do not appear to be Russian military.

Wow....please ATI, release your damn 7xxx series in time for this!
Roger that. A GPU is the last component I'm going to get. I'm waiting til the last minute to choose, but I'd guess nVidia would be the safest choice for this game.

I could hardly tell the difference side by side, but after making this gif the additional terrain detail in DX11 does seem nicer. I was focusing on the internal ridges rather than the very obviously improved skyline. I also suspect that it's one of those things that looks far better when you can move the camera and see all the extra detail come to life.

Interesting 10 minute audio interview with Karl Magnus Troedsson from a couple of days ago:

I think he must have learned his English in Ireland. Thought he was Irish the whole time until I saw the name.

It's a shame that a video from Gamescom in Germany can't actually be watched in Germany due to the music copyright. I wish Youtube would just mute the audio for us poor bastards that live here; it's almost as though they're trying to politicize it.

There's a live Q+A on at the moment, it's in German, the English one is tomorrow. link

I've asked about MEC and was told that they are NOT in - the remakes of Karkand and Kubra feature US and Russian forces. I also asked how integrated Origin and Battlelog are, and the answer wasn't that clear, I took it to mean that you can access Battlelog through Origin, but you don't have to.

There is no in-game server browser. Getting to a server is done via your browser + battlelog. You can alt+tab to get there, or you can exit the game. Exiting and loading the game is apparently very quick as there will be no intro videos!
