Zelda delayed to next year

According to cube.ign:

August 16, 2005 - Nintendo announced this morning that its anticipated new adventure game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, has been delayed. The title, formerly scheduled to debut this November around the world, has since been postponed to 2006 so that the developer can continue to make the game better.
"After much discussion, the Zelda development team has requested extra time to add new levels, more depth and even higher quality to Zelda: Twilight Princess," said Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. "Consequently, we're announcing a new global launch in 2006, after the conclusion of this fiscal year (March 31). We'll provide a specific date at a later point in time. While this may come as a disappointment to many eager fans, it will absolutely enrich the game and make it a multi-million seller."

Why not shift it to Rev, maybe as a launch title? If Zelda is to be released next year, after NIntendos fiscal year, it would mean that it will maybe be forgotten/neglected, with 360 being in "full gear" and with the PS3 just being released, how can/will Zelda for NGC face such an onslaught?

Yes, I agree that moving it to the Revolution is a sound idea. It would be the killer app that Nintendo needs in order to face the onslaught of both Xbox 360 and PS3. The game would sure sell millions, and also millions of Revolutions.

I am highly anticipating the game, but if it does indeed get pushed back til 2006 then I may have to wait a few months before picking it up. New generations always hold my interest than the current/previous ones. I always go back and pick up games that came out during the switch, but sometimes it can take up to a year just to do that.

Na nintendo needs a huge hit to make moeny and zelda on the gamecube is it . There just wont be enough revs sold to do the same busniess.

Its a shame cause i am trading in my cube. I was hopping i could have beaten the game before x mass. Oh well i will play it on the rev through bc

Nintendo keeping a release date, is like sega coming back into the system wars and beating Sony's ass, Never gonna happen. This why all there games are so great they delay and make improvements here and there and, make the game better.

I think that only one Nintendo game was delayed this console generation.
The N64 era was another story, though...

Nope top in my head: Geist delayed for over a year and there's probably more...

Man, my wife is going to be sad. :(

She was terribly addicted to the windwaker and lately she has been playing through the Ocarina of Time in anticipation of the new game.

How am I going to keep her distracted while I play world of warcraft?! ;)

Beyond Good&Evil might do the trick, was almost as good as WW...

sounds like shes still got the snes zelda to play through, i think that one is just as good as ocarina of time.

This bites if true. Was totally looking forward to a good game on my GCN. Poor girl just seems to gather dust lately.

Even just got the component cable for her. Doh!

Yea its true . Got the news at the store and the store sent out automated calls to everyone that had preordered telling them not to expect it till at least march

It's produced and published by Nintendo, but developed by N-Space.

I think only Pikmin 2 had to be delayed.

Well look on the bright side folks, they game will be more polished and contain more content. It might even contain extras only available when played on Revolution. ;)

I know, I know, however, after reading an interview with the Nspace guys most of the ideas came from Miyamoto himself. They didn't even come up with possessing of things or that you actually have to scare humans before possessing them. Scaring humans is now more of a little puzzle game (several scares involved) which again shows the EAD input. So I decided to view as a Nintendo game.
Additionally, the decision to delay it was made at Nintendo.
But anyway you're right.

It'll play the role of FF12 for PS2/PS3 in the GC/Rev land with the backward compatibility. Moving it to Rev doesn't make sense, as there are people who buy Rev just to play Twilight Princess anyway, and it can mitigate poor launch lineup.

Actually you also, probably right, one of my friend told me that Zelda:WW was also delayed for a few months.
I didn't check if it's true, but since he's a Nintendo die-hard fan, I guess he's right.

So that makes that 2 games delayed by NCL this generation.

Eiji Aonuma admitted a few months ago that LoZ: The Wind Waker needed more work, and that he had to approve certain passages that weren't really 'finished'. A few dungeons didn't make the final cut, and the Triforce quest was meant to be different. They delayed the game, but they still needed more time.

It's a pretty bald move to skip the holiday season just to make sure your product is as good as it can get. I'd rather wait for another quarter, than playing Zelda and not feeling like it is Nintendo's pièce de résistance this generation. ;)
