My gaming budget is shadow of its former self (RE1 reference FTW ) due to the fact that I've just bought my first house. I'm a little concerned now given my primary hobby isn't exactly the cheapest around, so I'm having to begin planning my purchases in advance so I can put the necessary pennies aside.
Having said that, 2008 looks to be another good year for gaming. This is a little surprising, given 2007 was likely the best gaming year of all time - I would have thought the barrel would be a little more dry, but no!
So, let's use this thread to detail your planned purchases for the rest of the year. You can potentially help me build my budget (via games I've forgotten), while also helping to build your anticipation levels.
My year looks like:
For the foreseeable future:
Age of Conan. I love it - it fixes a lot of the annoyances I have with MMO's, and while it's not perfect it's taking up most of my gaming hours.
My release dates are coming from http://www.gpstore.com.au/Games/Schedule/Xbox-360/06-2008/Coming-Soon/ - so hopefully they're reasonably accurate. Let me know if I'm messing up anything obvious.
June:
Ninja Gaiden 2 - already bought from PlayAsia for a low, low price.
July:
Soul Calibur 4 - I expect this to be a top notch fighter
August:
Too Human - This is a maybe... after trying Titan Quest, its expansion, Sacred and Hellgate, I really, really want a good Diablo-esque game. Hopefully it turns out well.
September:
Riddick - I think this is tentative, since it's been off the radar for quite a while
Fallout 3 - I would be surprised if it wasn't pushed back, but this is potentially my GOTY. Excitement levels are through the roof.
October:
Fable 2 - Fairly straight-forward
November:
Gears 2 - If it's as good as the first, I'm in.
Viva Pinata 2 - The original is up there with my top five games ever.
PoP - Looks great, hopefully it's more SoT than WW.
December:
Banjo - This is a maybe... I'm hoping for it, but there's precious little out there in terms of how it plays. Fingers crossed!
So that's it. A pretty pricey year again. I don't think I've missed anything major, and I'm sure a few of these will slip. The beauty of these lists - Arwin has a 2007 thread in a similar vein IIRC - is rereading them and seeing what surprised and met all your expectations, and what did not.
What's your gaming calendar looking like?
