It's a smaller xbox that uses the micro AT moterhboard format/power supply. Nvidia annouced a few months back that they were launching a micro at mother board and chipset to be used in these smallr computer systems. A good example of that would be the shuttle PC's since they are very small in comparrison to a regular sized PC.
Add to that hardrives can be cut down in size along with a number of other components, this should allow for a more sleek xbox system to be designed.
Spong isn't the first to break this rumor (infact I can't stand that website) Japanese media were the first to report on this, and MS mentioned when xbox launched that they planned to release a updated lower cost version around this time frame.
"lite" is misleading. So, It's more a box redesign. a good thing ,the "design factor" of the xbox product have a non negligible responsability in its asian failure.
Oxygen, the guy who works for MS gaming department, insists that "Xbox Lite" (as in redesigned/reduced form factor) is not coming. He's been repeating that on every ocasion the issue arised (this would be the last time, previos was right before the E3) and so far was always correct...
Can someone post a link (besides spong) to confirm/deny Xbox lite? I would be quite interested in buying an Xbox lite...
It seems like a good move for MS. Give a small update to Xbox, maybe throw in the DVD remote for free, and/or Xbox Live for a year, for $200-250 US? I wouldn't be surprised if they cook something up like that in response to PSX.
It would also allow MS to reduce the "effective price" of Xbox without actually lowering the sticker price, avoiding the embarrassment of selling at a lower price than the PS2 despite higher performance.
If there is such a plan, I certainly hope they don't call it 'Xbox Lite'. That's a marketing disaster waiting to happen 'Xbox 1.5' is much more forward thinking

You mean like in the whole of Europe for the last 12 months?
I really believe that the general public looks at the price of the Xbox in the UK and assumes that becuase it is a lot cheaper than the PS2, that it is an inferior piece of equipment. I'm talking about people with no knowledge of videogames, just shoppers walking round the electronics store.
When I look at kit I don't understand this is the assumption I make. Price equals quality.
