Xbox 360 Fall 2008 update list (post #23)

Thats true. However depending on how much they can change it will obviously affect how worth while it is. However with 6.8 gigs seeming to be the limit , even moving up to 7.8 gigs will be what another 7th of the space avalible ?
Anyway I wonder when Rockstar said MS was working on it , if it meant reducing the drm , adding hardrive installs so dual discs wouldn't be as much of ap roblem or perhaps using some type of third layer dvd.

It will be interesting to see what ms does. However I figure they only need to worry till holiday 2011.

I presume they meant hard-drive installs and a 60BG minimum HDD model. An extra gig per disk still doesn't amount to much when you're already spanning 2 discs and looking at three.

Yes but hardrive installs are no mandatory so I don't see how that would actually help a developer. They will still have to design around the limits of a dvd. Even if you use two dvds you still have some limits to work around. Installs will help butthere will be those who don't install or have no hardrive.

I couldn't find any info on avatars. Anyone know if you HAVE to use them instead of gamerpics? if so it sucks, I want to keep my Seriously... achievement picture!

Perhaps I've missed it in this thread, but is there an ETA for this update yet?

"Fall" is the official date so far. But I'm thinking it might not be here till Xbox anniversary date on November 15. Last year the fall update came out in December. An early November date would time well with any SKU changes they might have planned for the holiday.

More confirmation for the November release...

I got back from Microsoft's London office a couple hours ago where they demonstrated the new "XBox Live Experience", XBox Live Primetime, the advertising opportunities within it and then some hands on time with upcoming karaoke game "LIPS".

In terms of the new dashboard or "The New XBox Experience" there isn't much to cover that wasn't already said at E3. The avatars animate really nicely and the general artistic style chosen by Rare sits well with me. From what I saw there are a lot of customisation options and yes, It sounds like in the future you will be able to deck your avatar out in branded clothing and accessories. Whether this is free as advertisers try this as a method of advertising clothing brands or whether they'll try and create a virtual fashion market where users pay for premium brand clothes remains to be seen. The impression I got was that Microsoft themselves still need to hash these details out.

In terms of the UI I've come to like it. On the whole. It's fairly straightforward as you just scroll between the various screens in the now obligatory shiny gradient backgrounds to access your games, music and video content. On the whole it seems better for browsing if you don't have a clear idea of what content you are looking for. If you wish however you can access the old school blade system as an overlay to quickly navigate to a specific section and this is a welcome addition.

I'm not sure if this has been confirmed already or not but I was told the new dashboard would arrive in November.

He also has some tidbits on GTA IV DLC and LIPS.

Every time I switch on my 360 I expect a prompt on this update! Fortunately November isn't too far away.

Thanks for the post AzBat, interesting read.

I'm just always skeptical when news sources say "we've been told", but don't quote anyone.

Ahh, I see. But being the optimistic type I swear I've seen a November timeframe mentioned a lot. Not that it really means anything. I guess I'll keep it in the back of my mind 'til the thing hits.

Cheers.

Shaky cam footage from PAX of New Xbox experience

I just realized watching this (~5:30 in) that besides the entire new dash and all the features they have added, this new system allows the ENTIRE Current blade Dash features to be available IN GAME.

With the New xbox experience when you hit the GUIDE button in game you basically get a new version of the existing DASH layout come up to navigate all the blades while playing... :p

he is zoomed way to far in on the camera most likely. It amplfys even the smallest shakes on modern cameras.
