X10 Release Dates

Xbox Game Room details from X10

I gathered a lot of new & confirmed details on Game Room from the X10 articles...

Things we found out before, but got additional confirmation...

  • 30 titles at launch(Atari, Intellivision, Activision & Konami)
  • can't walk around Arcade as your Avatar like Home
  • no online multiplayer, just local multiplayer
  • 1000 gamerscore across the whole service
  • no achievements for individual games
  • you can't unlock all the achievements on one title(maybe 10 titles)
  • If you purchased a title in Live Arcade that also shows up in Game Room, you can't unlock it in Game Room for free. You have to buy it again. They are not the exact same game evidently.
  • custom challenges can be sent to 8 friends
  • if a friend has the same game as you & also has the high score his name will show up on a red banner above your cabinet, green banners have your name when you have the high score.

What's new?

  • 12-different rooms & total of 100 cabinets
  • Load & save anywhere
  • Rewind Time feature(using triggers) in the Classic Single Player mode allows you to rewind all your mistakes, but invalidates your leaderboard score
  • Day 1 purchases("or spending $.50 later on" according to GamePro) net you a nifty icon/item that runs around the Arcade, think Pitfall Harry that was seen in previous videos
  • Saw in the Dean Takahashi/VentureBeat video below that it looks like there is running marquee/ticker at the top of the screen while playing games that gives updates on high scores, challenges, or info on features like Rewind Time etc.
  • Game bundles of 3 titles are a possibility for $5 if titles are not selling
  • Expect a weekly release schedule starting in April. Probably on Thursdays & about 5-7 new titles a week.

LOL. In my case they are going to need a LOT of not previously released titles then...

:) I don't have as many as you, but yeah it's aggravating that they are not giving Live Arcade owners a bone here. Considering their 30 launch titles & possible 5-7 games a week thereafter they could definitely saturate the Game Room with plenty of previously unreleased titles.

Anyway, I'm really interested in the Game Room, but the more I hear about it, the more I'm thinking I'll still be spending the majority of my money on XBLA & XBLIG titles instead. Which is kinda sad since the concept had a lot of potential.

MW2 Spec Ops and ODST Firefight still pale in comparison to Horde, so here's hoping for Gears 3 this year...

Also it would seem that "summer of arcade" has been moved to spring this year and renamed "Arcade Block Party"

The titles are:
Toy Soilder
Perfect Dark
Scrap Metal
Game Room

Easily the best year for the console.

Or maybe we get both Summer of Arcade AND Block Party?!

Btw, Toy Soldiers looks very interesting. On our, "If they didn't botch it I will buy it" list. Reminds me of a cross of Conquers Bad Fur Day MP and BF1942 :D

Agreed. Horde is really well done.

Firefight could be up there if they allow public matches and save points like Horde has with Waves.

Yeah, Al and I were talking about that with FF: the lack of rounds/waves and really cohesive scaling challenges makes it seem less defined. As for MW2 Spec Ops... I love that mode. 4 player would have made it better though!

I wouldn't have gotten it for the 360 to begin with. Rather play it on my pc and enjoy higher resolution with fsaa and other features.

My biggest mistake was buying oblivion on the 360 instead of pc. I didn't make the mistake with fall out and I wont make it again in the future.

Though i'm sure they are still making it for the pc just wont come out for awhile after all.
Aah, fair enough. I much prefer the console experience. Means I haven't had to upgrade my PC in 4 years. I mean how much CPU do you really need to check facebook? :)

When I want to play a game on pc and 360 normaly i can use the 360 controller. So i can it on my lap put my game at 1080p normaly with 8x fsaa and other features the 360 can only dream of doing and enjoy myself.

Microsoft announced official dates for the Xbox Live Arcade Block Party...

Toy Soldiers - March 3 - 1200 MSP
Scrap Metal - March 10 -1200 MSP
Perfect Dark - March 17 - 800 MSP
Game Room - March 24 - FREE (individual games are 40 MSP for single play, 240 MSP for 1 platform & 400MSP for both platforms)

They announced some deals if you buy all 4 titles before March 31, you will get a 400 MSP refund & if you have a Gold subscription you also get an extra month of Gold free. Also, between March 26-29, Silver subscribers can play any of the Block Party titles online for free.

As for Game Room, the following video is by far the best & most informational so far. You get a lot more details on the Challenges you'll be able to do. Plus, you get a lot more details on Time Rewind & see it in action. It's starting to get me a little more excited. BTW, the guy they interviewed was one of the original developers & he said they originally thought of doing a Dreamcast emulator, but decided to go for an "everything emulator". Will be interesting to see them get more than arcade, 2600 & Intellivision games.
