Wondering how to get a grasp on...

DubOSv10

Newcomer
All of the technology surrounding the graphics industry. I'm quite big into gaming and the computer world, but I've never been able to grasp the technology involved with Video Cards. It's something I'm heavily interested in as I actually work with art quite a bit, 2D and 3D animations, etc...

I guess, when reading a review, I wanna know exactly spec by spec what it deals with...everything from Voltage, to Pixel Shaders, I've tried to find a decent website that introduces me to the subject, even books, but to no avail.

If anyone has a recommendation for me, I'd appreciate it...I wanna be on a forum speaking with a high level of knowledge instead of struggling to understand what's going on. I need to know what makes these things tick...

Damn, I know exactly what you're talking about...but I'm pretty clueless to tell you how to find it all out, I'm still working on it myself.

My best advice is to keep reading all the reviews and find yourself a good forum to ask a lot of questions on. (This one is probably the very best for that!)

Seriously, it's sort of a process of osmosis for me....just spending the time reading that which I don't understand until it starts to make some sense for me. (Well, that and get infamous for asking an awful lot of dumb questions....but the people here are GREAT about answering them!)

Read, participate, question....you'll get the knowledge you're looking for. (But I gotta warn you, it can take some time! Be patient, it'll start to make some sense after a while. ;) )

Actually I'd advise him to skip the reviews at first, but rather to start with the oldest articles, Kristof has some really good ones from way back in the day. They would give anyone a nice solid foundation on which to go back into the reviews and better understand the nitty gritty of the newest cards.

Oh and by the way, did you happen to get referred here from the Aceshardware forums?

You can start with the first Beyond3D Articles, and work your way up to date. :)

Read B3D reviews and B3D forums. Read OLD B3D reviews, too.

That's what I'm doing, Baron can attest that it's been working okay so far.
You're still a moron and a postwhore, but you're improving. I can occasionally have a semi-coherent conversation with you. :)

right on...thanks guys, I'm gonna start with the Extreme Tech article, then get on with the beyong 3d articles and reviews...thanks...
