A consortium of leading makers of consumer electronics (CE) announced Tuesday formation of a special interest group that will develop specification of wireless interface – WirelessHD or WiHD – intended to enable high-definition audio video (A/V) streaming and high-speed content transmission for CE devices.

CE devices... But could it mean one less snake tucked behind the desktop in the future?

Could be interesting, but I wonder what kind of hardware you'll need to pull that off. A multi-hundred megabit connection with jumbo frame support and SACK capability would probably work. Maybe useable over 802.11N? But at what distance? And I wonder what signal degredation will do to your picture and sound...
