Why Nintendo Innovates (Nothing Personal, It's Business)

they have a different busines case then the other players.. what else to discus

ps:
people please stop creating the same thread on different forums at the same time. it gets boring

Even if not intentional, this thread looks like flame-bait. We all know what happens when someone says 'Nintendo Innovates'...

'No they don't, they just recycle ideas.'
'That's what innovation is.'
'When was the last time Nintendo came up with something new?'
'DS.'
'Touch screens have been around for years.'
'Sony do more innovation.'

This thread can't go anywhere useful.

Maybe a mod can change the subject to simply "Nintendo - It's Not Personal, It's Business" for me.

You could say, "They (the consoles) have different hardware then one another.. what else to discuss?" - but clearly people find quite a bit to discuss on that subject. I'd imagine the same goes for business models.

I found this article takes away a lot of the shiny mystique that many Nintendo fans associate with the company. In the end they're just like any other company, out there to make a buck - not be your friend. The article also shows how important of a role Sony/Microsoft play in the industry by being the ones willing to spend the time/money to polish/perfect genres for genre fans - where as Nintendo usualy moves on once a genre has moved past the initial easy-buck stage, leaving many gamers feeling abandoned.

Over all I found the article very well balanced, and came out of it feeling a new found respect for both Nintendo and Sony/Microsoft.

they have different busines cases thats the reason they make (or try to make) different hardware

sony and MS are going for the same market
Nintendo goes for another market
In the end they try to make all money
one things lead to inovate for another
if there was no playstation or xbox, we souls still play N64's and saturns

The thing is.. Nintendo perfects genres too. They don't always move on after presenting a new angle.

Nintendo's rehashing can have a positive effect, but their critics pounce anyway.

It can also be negative.. but in the case of Super Mario Bros.. I'd say that Nintendo hasn't sequelled it enough. They've been too busy trying to sell the original NES/SNES titles back to us over and over and over again in varying degrees of quality.

Personally, I think it's really unbelievable that there have been 2 traditional Super Mario platformers since 1992; not counting Yoshi's Island or the Wario Land titles. Mario 128 is still probably my most anticipated Revolution title..

Now, if only that re re re re release of SMB had been for the DS instead of the GBA, and supported wireless multiplayer time challenge...

Think about it! Each player on the starting grid of each level SIMULTANEOUSLY, not consecutively - possibly differently colored marios, possibly different Nintendo characters from various games, Peach, Toad, ice-climber twin etc... At the go signal, each player sprints off, and at the end of the level you receive points depending on which position you finished, and what other bonuses you picked up/enemies you killed along the way. Naturally, it would have to be a big bonus to stop and headbutt coins out of a brick for example or else nobody would do it.

Of course, everybody would see each other on-screen when you're side by side to add extra realism and suspense (like a formula one race :D), with "your" Mario arranged on top of course so you can see where the heck you're going. :D

I'd buy a re re re re rereleased game like that! ;)

Wow, that's acctualy a really good idea. I never really thought about how one would play a platformer online, but this would be perfect.

The concept makes me think of Uniracers, and that game was awesome! Super Mario Bros was all about just speeding through it for me, so I like the thought of 'racing' others in it.

I think your idea would work great with Sonic, and a lot of other old games as well.

Then you'll start seeing cheaters/hackers modding the game so that their modded souped up Mario pulls a Homing Meteor Launcher +1 out of their Chainmail Helmet +3 and blasts all the other players!! ;)
