Why is Nintendo holding out on releasing technical specs?

Specs is all we need. They are already crushed.

How so ? The game cubes specs weren't great . However the system was very balanced and put out a great image rivaling that of the much more expensive xbox .

Its naive to believe that specs alone matter . Cpu and gpu speeds and specs by themselves don't matter

Your also forgetting that they will be rendering at a lower res . Which means with teh same power more work cna be done per pixel .

I believe 720p is almost twice the pixels of 480p . Meaning an xbox 360 can do twice the work per pixel at 480p than 720p (if i'm correct about the pixel number )

There are many factors than just specs

720p has EXACTLY 3x's as many pixels as 480p

640 X 480 = 307,200 pixels

1280 X 720 = 921,600 pixels

:p

My total guess is this: They know they stand no chance at sales from performance. In fact, they know they stand to lose sales from underperforming hardware (comparitively). Thus, they want to present the bad news with good news in an effort to smooth things over. When they feel confident that they have a revolution (small 'r' intentional) to show, they will show specs. That means somewhat final software and hardware.

My other guess is that N is historically tardy and the launch will be delayed. Hence the hardware is not finished.

Because of this whole spec/HDTV thing, i honestly think they're shooting themselves in the foot before it even starts. Look at next-generation multi-platform titles (RE5, Condemned, etc): none shows any indication that they'll be availble on Revolution. In fact (someone correct me if i'm wrong), i haven't heard of any third-party developer or publisher announce support for Revolution.

The Revolution could end up being how the Gamecube is now... in just it's 1st year.

Nintendo is keeping quite because Revolution isn't due till fall of 2006.

Nintendo is making the most profit out of all three consoles companies although Nintendo have made some questionable business decisions they have yet to go under and I doubt they will in this coming generation.

That's what really bugs me about Nintendo, they take very little risks for the sake of raking in profit from the start. In a lot of ways, they're the greediest company of all (compared to Sony and MS, i mean). You sure don't see Sony or MS cutting every corner they see for profit. Not saying they're not in it to make money - because they clearly are - but they take huge financial and technological chances to give customers the types of experiences they want, not limiting their products and telling their customers what's best for them, like some annoying parent.

please leech . Nintendo has made some of the best experiances out there.

Unlike ms nintendo has no other part of the company that can absorb the losses . So thus they can't make a 400$ console and sell it at 300$ like ms .

Unlike sony nintendo doens't have its own electronic division thus they can't build thier own chips and they have to outsource for it . All which adds to the cost .

Nintendo however does iinvest alot of moeny into thier consoles . You can see that because they were all imipressive for thier day . Even the gamecube which cost 200$ less than the xbox or around that was very impressive and when pushed by the devs created images on par with the more expensive console .

In that instance nintendo proved that specs alone don't mean anything . once again this time around specs don't mean anything either . Esp since they are in a lower res

Well I equate Nintendo to the Disney of the videogame industry. I can understand why some would be turned off. But that's why we have choices. And as successful as Nintendo has been, I don't think anyone can fault them for their decisions. They do seem to take less financial risks than anyone else, but I don't think their technological risks and contributions to the industry should be ignored. They are way more innovative than Sony or MS.

Well Nintendo have once again done something really silly, since the Cube is the slowest selling machine at the moment, and it's the one with the longest future (future meaning before it is superceded).

So they're in quite a dangerous position. The handheld market is pulling them through again, which is a plus.

Microsoft has been way more successful than Nintendo.
Lumping entire companies together sometimes makes for worthless comments.

I can. I can't speak for everyone, but i sure as hell don't need Nintendo telling me i don't want online play, or HDTV, or how scary two analog sticks are.

Not in the videogame business...

nintendo just recognizes that in every generation of hardware, the most powerful system has never won (i believe this would also apply to PCs). just going back as far as i know specs for,

nes & sms - nintendo win

snes & genesis - nintendo win (debatable on a number of points, but note nintendo watched patiently as sega and 3do threw away millions on cd-based systems)

saturn/dreamcast & psx & n64 - psx wins despite being a little turd

ps2 & xbox & gamecube - ps2 wins despite being MOST inferior box

ps3 & xbox30 & rev - i admit it doesn't look GOOD for nintendo. i really think they are taking a bigger risk than they think. i also think, however, that i will buy a revolution, at some point. i'm thinking that maybe nintendo is deliberately acepting its role in this generation as a pure niche company. perhaps if it cannot make enough proift in this way, we will see nintendo go the way of sega (and how great that would be...)
