WHY is my computer so SLOW???

It's called 'windows entropy'. Or possibly atrophy. :D It's always terminal by the way. No point in keeping up the resuscitation of the body if the brain's already dead...

bah, it will survive. it's survived worse. and, after three years, you've dome so much to it... really don't want to have to start from scratch again.

anything strange?

haven't given up yet? :)

well, just going thru the processes - ok, let's ignore running notepad and cmd, but wth is rundll32 doing there?
spmd.exe,sesinetd.exe,hserver is what? duh, runservice.exe? ignoring pixar stuff, tablet.exe?

anyways i'd recommend killing all "killable" apps and see if system perf. gets to normal, then if that helps, log out/in and start killing the apps one after another and see if it helps after each step.

ps: now i see rundll32 running nvcpl and nvmediacenter, but it shouldn't imo stay in memory after it's executed.

hmm i killed off the pixar stuff and that seemed to help but then i started typing here and it was really slow at first. im will win this battle yet!

btw, in the registry... what is hkey_curr_user > software > microsoft > windows > shellnoroam > MUIcache for? theres lots of stuff in there about pretty much every prog ive ever run can i blow it all away?

not that i'd know right off my head, but it seems to be list of apps and their language settings according to what i've found on the web.
i'd say it's safe to remove all those keys if you'd like to give that a try.

btw did you try some registry cleaning program?

no, i havnt tried any registry cleaning programs. think i should? know of a good one?

in your situation i guess anything's worth trying :)

and sorry, but i don't know any good one, but i've used windoctor from norton utilities few times. wouldn't know about any others though.

other suggestions:
- try to lower hardware acceleration for your video card (in display properties -> advanced -> troubleshoot)
- did you check if your ide controllers run in udma mode? something might have changed the settings.
- i'd also try disabling/removing firewall/antivirus

Rambler said:
what was the cause of the problem then?

umm.... i dont know... i nukes a bunch of things that i deemed unnessesary. i think it might have been some of the pixar services running. I'll probably end up reinstalling them again at some point but at the moment I dont need them. They've never cause any troubble before so it was probably just a freak thing.

Or, it might have had to do with some of the NIC interfaces that needed to be nuked. Lots of miniport drivers I had to remove by editing the registry to make them removable. I just got fed up and nuked about everything. And it worked.
