Why am I getting so many e-mail attachments?

It's killing my inbox.
Sometimes I get something like 6 or 7 e-mails that are exactly the same but from different addresses.
Should I open them?
What can I do about future e-mails?

I'm using Thunderbird + spam filter and Optus has thier own spam filter.

Not all attachments are bad.
I get ones with free pics sometimes.

methinks this be an attempt at attention-whoreing... and me be an expert on said subject!

I'm not attention whoring.
I just don't see what is the big deal with attachments.
If they are bad then format your computer otherwise don't format.

Isn't there programs that can determine the safety of attachments?
