Which CPU and GPU? Building PC (3D Modeling, Rendering, Game Design, Animation)

Someone told me there is a lot more headroom for OC in Intel chips that reduce the gap and having a mobo that supports Intel processors may be more future proof.

Thoughts?

I think it's the other way around. Ryzen motherboard is much more likely to be ready for future upgrades like Zen 2 than current mainstream Intel chipsets.

My i7-2600k has outlived two motherboards, six GPUs (admittedly because I used both crossfire and SLI) and two PSUs.

One motherboard was a recall. One was to improve stability. PSUs seemed to have issues with the power in my old house in spite of both a line conditioner and a ups.
 
AMD has already guaranteed AM4 Zen support until 2020. Intel CPU sockets usually are only good for 2 generations.
 
You guys have convinced me. I made my order. :) Waiting for the arrival
