IIRC, double quotes are only used for direct speech. This means some person said the follow "...". If you're quoting somebody, who is in turn quoting something you use single quotes on the internal quote. If you're not quoting direct speech, then you use '...'.

That's what I have been doing all this time but I'm not too sure if that is the correct usage.

Saem basically said the same thing as I did, I just didn't think of that. In other words, single quotes are used inside a double quote for whatever purpose.

You see, that's the problem. I get taught one thing at school and you guys all get taught another thing. It makes certain things confusing such as this issue.
