Vista and WiFi

How can I get Vista to restore my WiFi internet access when resuming from sleep mode? Every time that happens, my gateway has disappeared, and I have to do ipconfig /release /renew to get back online.

Oddly enough, I've never experienced this problem. Does it only affect certain types of hardware, or certain WAP config methods or security types or something?

Btw, how can I get Vista not to resume from sleep mode when the mouse moves?

Start menu -> Sleep. And move your mouse to it's resting place. Your computer wakes up right away!

Pick a deeper slleep mode I suppose. Hibernate it's called I think?

At least I have to press the power button to get it to wake up that way. That is assuming it wakes up at all. I'm having very very very very bad luck with powersave modes with all windows OSes I've ever tried on every desktop I've ever tried.

Most of the time it doesn't fall asleep or it bluescreens or hangs either on going to sleep or waking up. You seem to be luckier on that front though.
peace.

There's various settings you can tweak, some of them in BIOS, such as "Wake from USB".

Other items are configurable from inside of Vista (Control Panel -> Power Options -> Edit Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings). It might also have a grace period where any mouse or keyboard press stops it from sleeping.

Maybe something TweakVista can enable?

If you look under the Device Manager at the various USB and Human Interface devices you'll see that some have a tab 'Power Management' with a tick-box 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'. Basically you need to ensure that this is configured as you want it for the mouse and keyboard, etc. It can take a bit of fiddling to find the right devices.

(Well, that's how it works under XP at least :))

Start->Computer->Right click "Manage"->Device Manager->Mouse->Pick your mouse->Power Management->"Allow this device to wake your computer", uncheck.

This is most likely a driver bug. I do not see it on my machines.

Try looking for a driver update for your WiFi card.
