Value of Hardware Unboxed benchmarking

Everyone knows that the price of the 16GB is not good. But when your youtube channel is active lobbying for more than 8GB i think price is not the most relevant point.

lol, what? Of course it's incredibly relevant, it's literally what defines the value proposition of a product! Nobody would ever talk about vram at all otherwise since we've had 24GB cards since the 3090, so why is it a concern - the solution is right there!

The existence of $1000+ 24GB cards are of course completely irrelevant to the vram concern, because there's always been the glaringly obvious implicit assumption that the problem is the vram demands are outstripping what the midrange is offering.

A product is only as viable as its price, it's completely integral to how you review it! If you have a problem with this, then you have a problem with every single outlet that has done 4060 reviews and has commented on its perceived value.

TPU, PCGamer, PCGH, Notebookcheck and probably others have described the price as expensive. So for HUB to do that aswell is nothing out of the ordinary.

If a GPU has a meager amount of VRAM, naturally a reviewer will point this out. If a GPU has an expensive price tag, naturally a reviewer will point this out.

It seems very unlikely to me that there's something actually wrong with this HUB review if these kinds of cold takes are what the Nvidia Club is currently upset about. :coffee:

I doubt that Nvidia sell G6 with 4060Ti chips so the 16GB allocation and costs should be 100% on AIBs.

Haven't GPU's been sold to ISV's as package deals with included memory for years now? Doing it otherwise would significantly encumber AIB's (not exactly Nvidia's concern mind you) as they couldn't get near the allotment deals that the actual GPU manufacturer can. How would smaller manufacturers possibly be able to meet MSRP when they can't secure the same contract pricing as major players?

Top end ones at launch yes, the rest though? I doubt it. It's the same chip, same PCB and everything - only the G6 chips are different. Even if they come as a "packaged deal" the AIBs can still mix and match them however they want.

Unless there is some new memory capacity control, AIBs could've come up with double capacity models on their own, right?
It is strange to me how those moves have disappeared in recent years.

Everyone has known that 16GB wont save the 4060TI. And yet channels like AMDunboxed have claimed that you need more than 8GB and advertising outdated AMD cards.
Maybe you can explain why a GPU with better image quality (DLSS vs. FSR), lower latency (Reflex) and better support for raytraying (even in Portal RTX and Cyberpunk PT usable) is worse than a 6800?

There is no discussion that these channels just want to hate on nVidia. They dont do proper reviews anymore.

The criticism of the 4060Ti 8GB for its ridiculous memory deficit and exorbitant price is legit, as is the criticism of the 4060 Ti 16GB for its equally outrageous pricing.

I'm hardly a HUB fanboy, but even I noticed the part where they were saying that the 16 GB version should be $50 more (or maybe at a push $100 more).

The idea that anyone is claiming extra memory should be "free" is simply false.

Because textures and frame rate are a thing? Catastrophic stuttering is deleterious to gameplay, and it's hard to boast about IQ when textures simply refuse to load or are caught in a lod cycling loop as the game tries to put 11.7 GB of data in 7.3 GB of available GPU memory.

I actually think that 16 GB does "save" the 4060 TI - it's a performant and well featured processor who's performance, IQ and undoubtedly longevity too are unlocked by having enough memory. I'd buy one today if it wasn't so insultingly priced.

Did they give any basis to why they think that 50 is fine? Any examples where this is the case? And it is 100 more, which is obviously "a joke".

Hardware Unboxed literally state in their 4060 Ti 16GB review that this version is a "much better product". In this same review they show improved lows in TLOU, the elimination of stuttering in RE4, considerably better lows in Callisto Protocol (where before it dropped to 10 FPS (!) as well as A Plague Tale Requiem, and the elimination of unloaded textures in Halo Infinite and Forspoken.

This very existence and continuation of this topic as some thesis that HUB is some AMD fanboy channel really demonstrates how utterly asinine this whole forum is, ultimately. Ever since that narrative started, it's been nothing but a practice in confirmation bias. It's straight up embarrassing seeing adult human beings acting like this. Just pure fanboy nonsense, little better than you'll see in a Youtube comment section much of the time.

It possible to say things that are indeed stupid, though. What a bizarre attempt at a 'gotcha'.

I am not here to simp for HUB, I just think this narrative that's been concocted about HUB hating Nvidia or being AMD fanboys or something is plainly ridiculous and comes only from a fanboy mentality. You dont have to always like or agree with their takes on things, but to extrapolate that out to saying they have some clear bias against any specific chip maker is desperate reaching. It's simply become a lame and lazy way to dismiss HUB saying things they dont like hearing.
