my uTorrent automatically updated itself.

minor GUI changes.

there is something wrong with upload, it's not as fast as it was before.

there could be a bug.

upgraded to uTorrent 1.71 build 3360, the latest.

upload speed is awful.

digi, are you using it?

Yeah fine for me too, but 1.7 was suppose to have some fix for Vista? Can any elaborate on what that fix was (and why it was needed)?

How are you testing your upload? Is there even a reliable way to test p2p performance?

I'm seeding two torrents. I'd reach upload speeds of 75Kb/s. Now it is stuck at ~30Kb/s... Sometimes it'll reach 50Kb/s, but that's it.

And this began right after uTorrent upgraded itself to 1.7... :(

I found the error................ Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

I had limited the upload speed of those two torrents last week, because I wanted to maximize upload speed of some hdbits torrents I have (boost ratio). However, the hdbits torrents already have dozens of seeders and few leechers, therefore upload speed was very very low.

Now I'm back to normal!

Thank you!

And have a nice day!

WARNING!!!

Looks like uTorrent 1.7+ might not be kosher anymore:

Los Angeles - - BitTorrent Founder and CEO Bram Cohen and Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman announced today that the motion picture industry and BitTorrent, Inc. are collaborating with the goal of inhibiting film piracy. Bram Cohen developed a revolutionary technology for websites to make large content files available on the Web and that technology is often used by others illegally to distribute movies and television shows. Today Cohen confirmed BitTorrent, Inc.’s commitment to removing links that direct users to copies of pirated content owned by MPAA companies from its search engine at BitTorrent.com. The announcement today is historic in that two major forces in the technology and film industries have agreed to work together and proactively identify ways to l and to promote constructive innovation in this area.
This is Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol, and Ludvig (Ludde) Strigeus, the writer of µTorrent.

Together, we are pleased to announce that BitTorrent, Inc. and µTorrent AB have decided to join forces. BitTorrent has acquired µTorrent as it recognized the merits of µTorrent's exceptionally well-written codebase and robust user community. Bringing together µTorrent's efficient implementation and compelling UI with BitTorrent's expertise in networking protocols will significantly benefit the community with what we envision will be the best BitTorrent client.
There is a real possibility of the MPAA & uTorrent now working together. :???:

I think it's a little overly paranoid, but I noticed today on a couple of the major torrent sites that they will no longer accept 1.7+ as clients due to security concerns.

You can downgrade back to 1.6.1.490 by running the old installer. Don't uninstall your current copy, just install this over it. :)

Please digi stop spreading misinformation...

Oh noes! Everyone uninstall utorrent 1.7.x because copyrighted material was removed from BitTorrent.com's search engine!

Yea this announcement is pretty much a non-issue isn't it?

It's not as if MPAA's given a direct line to every utorrenter's harddrive or anything.

Besides. If your main reason for running bittorrent is to infringe upon copyrights then I wouldn't shed any tears if your freeloading pirate ways were curtailed...

I pay for groceries at the supermarket. And I pay for music and movies too. I might not be able to afford all the DVDs I'd like to buy, but that's as little an excuse for me to go off and pirate it all as going to a Mercedes car dealership and making off with one of their gorgeous coupes during a test drive because I don't have <Dr. Evil>one million dollars</Dr. Evil>.

Well that's my take on it anyway.

I think utorrent's still safe. They couldn't change it drastically even if they wanted because if they did that "community" they're touting so highly in that press release would pretty much evaporate. Kind of like Azureus' "community" seems to have done since last I ran it (something like fifteen months ago I think ago).

When I decided to try utorrent for the first time Azureus was still the most popular client by far. Now very few seems still to be using it.

Peace.

Is this the one which adds phone-home?
