I figured I'd clean up some messy business with people being confused as to which of Epic's Unreal Engine 3 games are being released for which next-generation gaming systems. For example, the official Gears of War announcement today alluded to XBox360 exclusitivity, while this IGN article said otherwise:

"... we can safely say that these assets are from a new game from Epic called Gears of War, which is coming out on the PC as well."

Well, I threw out an e-mail to Mark Rein of Epic, and here's what he had to say:

Gears is an Xbox360 exclusive. UT2007 is planned for PC and PlayStation 3.

That seems to be rather clear, don't you think? Now, hopefully, there won't be anymore confusion.

Now which should I buy, the PC version or the PS3 version?

Unless you can afford a blazingly fast PC, the PS3 version. It also depends on whether or not you have an HDTV. I'd rather play on a PC monitor than any size SDTV.

PS3 version for sure, especially if you have a HDTV like someone said above.

If just a regular TV, the PC running a very high resolution may be better.

But will the PC have enough oomph?

Depends when the game comes out I guess.

mmm.........it all makes sense now assuming Midway continues with Unreal Championship. Basically, the UC series could be for Microsoft Xbox exclusive, while the UT series is for PC...and now PS3.


....at least I hope UC2 isn't the last time I see Selket or an equivalent.

I hope Sony uses those quality video outputs to finally give us a VGA adapter. I mean, it's about damned time they caught up with the competition in that regard. PEACE.

If the PS3 UT2007 does not support MS/KB then the PC of course

Unless of course you prefer a gamepad to a KB/MS for that type of thing.

I prefer mouse keyboard with UT series just because it's so fast paced.

UC2 seems better with the game pad though because of all the fancy jumping and melee stuff going on. I hope they continue the UC series like this.

Hmmm....I dont know, although my enthusiasm for PC gaming has been deteriorating over years, but if I get a a high-end rig by the time this game comes I'll most likely opt for the PC version----------hoping that they ship the game on DVD!


With regards to the KB/Mouse thing, since PS3 has all those USB ports....such feature can be easily implanted can't it?

K/M support is technically possible.

They just have to decide to do it. I think some PS2 games supported K/M. A lot of them supported K for text chat and a handful of games supported K/M for gameplay.

MS has said no K/M for games, only text.

Not sure what Sony's policy is, if they have one.

Developers and publishers may conclude it's not worth it because it won't be widely used. Easy enough to plug K/M but it's awkward to use in a living room or anything other than a desk. Then again, people buy fancy wheels for the PS2.

Probably depends on whether adding K/M support is trivial or not.

Of course keyboards and mice are possible for PS3. Shouldn't be able to plug up via USB. I mean isn't that how a person would surf the web on the PS3? Probably will be a bluetooth enabled K/B thou, so nobody is kicking it out your hands.

Yes, the original UT was a PS2 launch game, but it was a shoddy port.

There's a Developer interview on Gamespot that says this is for the Xbox 360 and Ps3 and Pc.

What i think the guy wanted to say is : "Gears of War is Xbox 360 exclusive but Ut2007 will also come for the Pc and PS3"
