Uncharted 4 discussion [PS4] (read first post) [2016]

I really enjoyed chapter 8. I was rather down on the game because it just wouldn't let me off the leash before that point (and I'm just beyond tired of games doing that. You're a game for fuck's sake. TIme to start acting like one), but chapter 8 was damn impressive. I'm playing on hard. Thinking of going down to normal, though. I feel like the difficulty really kills any chance of player improvisation during combat. The enemies are so plentiful and so damn quick to flank and pin you down with near perfect accuracy from all angles the moment you're spotted that cool acts of badassery are basically suicide. Of course they also soak up bullets like crazy and don't have to deal with insane recoil like you do. It might seem like a Farcry game, but it's anything but.
Yeah, I am also happy that finally the game did let you free a bit. And it is indeed much more fun this way.

I play on normal difficulty, as I want to try out all those crazy stunt kills I saw in the previews...my favorite: jumping power punch!

yeah, thinking of downgrading from hard to normal myself so I can enjoy it a bit more - I'm going to have to replay crushing at some point anyway.

The abrupt shift from smooth sailing to hell on earth is a little too pronounced on hard methinks. Sure, enemies do eventually lose track of you in U4, but when they spot you, they immediately transorm into wall hacking bastards like it's 1999. It's quite ridiculous how well they track you behind cover even when you're fully obscured.

Highly trained pirates!

the game reached the status of realtime bullshoterie for me, it surpassed the order IMO.

Still in Chapter 8 right now.

By far the best exclusive I've played! With the sole exception of Bloodborne (it's just awesome). The art direction, animation, voice-acting, characters and game controls are all snappy and top notch! I will say though about the gameplay that there are a lot of similarities with RoTR and MGS5 -- that's a good thing though since they took the best of them. One thing I would have to nit-pick about the gameplay is that I like the gun mechanics of Quantum Break/MGS5 better. But that's just my preference.

On to more playing..

Finished it. Some of the set pieces are straight up crazy. Ridiculously good looking game. Loved the gameplay too. I think I would have preferred to have more encounters in the game since I really enjoyed the freedom they give you in combat. But when you're in a gun fight, oh boy is it so fun!
UC4 feels like a really well balanced game. There are a lot more traversing and puzzle solving and not 80% shooting compared to past UC games.

Hm, not sure about the pacing. The first 9 chapters are quite slow imo. I understand that they used this (quite well!) to introduce Nate's brother...without it being crazy ad hoc. I like that aspect and appreciate the intro for this., as it is a completely new character with strong back story. But the gameplay in this intro phase was quite slow and extremely handholding.

Also, the climbing stuff might be a tad excessive to me. True fact: after playing UC4 for 3 days straight, my thumb hurts. Why? Because for the climbing I pushed the stick always upwards. And with the many climing passages...my thumb started to hurt yesterday!!!

Free combat is fantastic. Quite challenging as well imo. I actually died more often in UC4 than in DS3  However, the problem is that once spotted, all enemies from all over the map fire at you and know immediately where you are! That could be done more subtle imo :)

It would be nice to have a stealth weapon. Bow would be perfect :) But maybe with this the game would be easy mode.

I really like this new exploration type gameplay segments, where 'nothing' happens: appreciate the setting/graphics but most importantly find notes about the pirate back story...it was really interesting (great pirate story!!) and I like those segments the most (TLOU had them as well).

Best thing: you can replay the individual combat encounters, without going through a full chapter!! Nice idea.

Also, the cool unlocks after beating the game: many different post processing filters, like e.g. Cell Shading

Can't wait for the coop expansion!!

Boom, finished. Speechless.

I also much preferred the stealth route and for that I also think that they should have provided a stealth weapon (I though of the bow too!) and some more reasonable mechanics more similar to Far Cry.

But damn. DAMN. What a joy.
