Ubisoft's Skull and Bones

why do they keep throwing good money after bad with this game ? Like what does the lead on this game have over the ubi execs ?

I really wonder what's going on, as I thought they were finally set to launch in March 2023 (after delay from November 2022). Maybe they realized post-launch content was lacking so they're focusing on that before opening the flood gates?

This could have upwards of another year of development. I don't think its just content at this point. There has to be something really broken some where. If it was content I fully think ubi would launch it and just add content as they go

Not a fun game? Focusing testing is bad and they so much money already that they are now trying to figure out which shade of red looks best on the pig? Not enough pre-orders?

Or somebody believes that this can be a cash cow ala Fortnite and they are just trying to get everything right from the get go?

They want this to be the new Crysis?

maybe the next sea of thieves but with microtransation hell ?

I'm just amazed this is still being made. Ubisoft must see a big potential for ongoing revenue.

I think it was mentioned before (but not sure on B3D), but they took funding from Singapore Government so they're tied to releasing it. Here is one such report (couldn't find a better source so apologies for Kotaku link) @ https://kotaku.com/first-it-was-an-assassins-creed-expansion-now-its-ubis-1847326742

But three sources also told Kotaku that a deal with the Singapore government requires it. In addition to hiring a certain number of people at its Singapore studio in exchange for generous subsidies, they said, Ubisoft Singapore must also launch original brand new IPs in the next few years.

Could release a below average game.

In terms of just releasing and then releasing follow up content whenever it's ready. That's a risky strategy. I'm sure 343 thought they could do that and it never really worked out for them for one reason or another.

Need to have some content ready so the team can still work on post release fixes etc and still have content drops.

But this game has had its share of delays, assume the underlying premise is seen as strong otherwise they'd release it and write it off. Ubisoft is really struggling at moment though.

I am betting that game studios/publisher are trying to find the right loophole like the movie/tv industry has, where its more "profitable" to cancel a movie/show than releasing it.

The ship movement looks like they're propelled rather than sail, but I guess they're after more of an arcade style ship combat.

So I guess there will be some fun to be had, depending on what the expectations are and what you're really looking for? A great review though, taking into context everything surrounding the game or trying to look at it from what they're trying to achieve.

tl;dw - It's pretty much terrible in every aspect, but it could be some dumb casual fun if you want.
