TSMC on track with 0.09um schedule

I think RussSchultz said that it was exactly what his company is doing. So i wouldn't say it's not economically feasible ;)
We have done it in the past, and it was more of being able to switch fabs at a drop of a hat, not necessarily two at once.

However, if you're a huge company with lots of sales, you don't want your product only capable of being produced at one place. Earthquakes aren't rare in Taiwan, so dual sourcing is semi-smart.

Personally, I don't see much of interest happening until the gfx-companies make the switch to finer geometry. Almost tempted to take Beyond3d off the "visit" list until then, as the finer points of 3D architecture is mostly lost on me anyway. The most exciting thing on the horizon is the possible migration of the R300 architechture to 0.13um but that will probably mainly result in in clock speed increases with some added tweaks, if it happens. Not invalid for sure, but if that's the most exciting thing happening product wise until 0.09um, well, that's hardly exciting enough to spend time digging through threads for roughly a year.

NV40 should be 0.13um. AFAIK, it was the main reason for NV-IBM deal.
