That looks very much like bilinear, not like brilinear. But brilinear is the "worst case" of ATIs trilinear optimization, isn't it? In that case there must be a setting misconfiguration.

As Lars points out, each time you swap a board in CoD the setting defauly to Bilinear - its very easy to overlook that (especially since not other settings appear to change either).

In the review the link for the SS is incorrect. If you click on it you get this (r420-anis00-00.jpg not r420-anis0x.jpg). The picture in the zip file follows the same naming convention as the Nv40 pic so it may in fact be correct but there is a possibility that it is not.

I wonder how many times we're going to see the following scenario the following days:

    1. Site publishes "proof" that ATI's filtering sucks
    2. Everyone gets excited
    3. Ppl start questioning the said findings
    4. They are proven wrong
    5. Goto 1

    Any bets? ;)

Well my question is how mikechai had a link to what he calls a R420 ss as they are not accessible if you go read the review? I find just a bit hard to trust they suddenly screw the link after he posted his "findings".

As has been said of Nvidia of the past, if ATI simply offered full trilinear quality when requested instead of an optimized adaptive bri/trilinear filter this type of controversary could have been avoided.

Look at the link addresses, of the seven COD shots, I think anyone will find it easy to spot the mistake.

Is it just blocking direct linking though? I can't be bothered to visit X-Bit for myself, I know I'll just get riled about their 'Stolen DirectX 9 Game 1' tests again. :x

Well, since the mods don't like me posting the image anymore, I'll stop here. But as long as ATI uses their cheat, and tells reviewers something else in their reviewers guide, then people should know about their blatant lying and not practicising what they themselves are preaching.

No the issue the link is something like r420-anis00-00.jpg whereas it should be r420-anis00-0x.jpg, not difficult to spot :D

Wouldn't it be nice to find out exactly what's going on before constantly flaming a company? That's exactly what these forum threads are trying to do and posting that which you have been does nothing to help.

Which people? You mean the same people that saw it the first time you posted? And have seen it the other five times too?

Anyway, have we verified the source of the R420 SS yet?
