He talks about how modern day graphics aren't as impressive as they want us to believe -true that-. How RT is being forced on us on games like Indiana Jones, for no real performance and visual clarity reasons but to fit nVidia's agenda.

Tbh I feel partially guilty of following these tendencies but what made me awake is that I really disliked RT being forced on Indy, and now Doom, and how RT in 95% of my games make little to no difference to IQ except for the fact that my GPU heats up more.

Indy runs at 60fps on my rig no problem on latest drivers, which tells how optimised iD Tech 7 is.

He is the author of the video explaining why modern graphics suck and Need for Speed 2015 looked more realistic than modern games.

He also mentions that it is the unfortunate truth that nVidia is the only GPU manufacturer that is led by an actual vision for graphics, a vision that a lot of people do not like but have no real alternative.

Hardware accelerated software in games is what nVidia offers now. I admire nVidia for many technologies that are now standard, like GSync Freesync, FG, but....

Maybe Intel.., maybe, just maybe, can be a GPU maker that can give us some hope for the future, to make something different. But I fear they might just follow nVidia, which they did relative fine til now, and only that.

Plus maybe they don't have the resources to change this.

He also explains that AI upscaling except DLDSR and 1:2 AI upscaling well used is usually a blurry mess.

One of the most popular GPUs on Steam was bashed by "influencers" yet it is hugely popular, the 4060Ti, so people don't care.

Optimized Photorealism That Puts Modern Graphics to Shame: NFS 2015

Speedhunters published some reference pictures that the development team of the upcoming Need for Speed tried to recreate in the game. The result looks pretty amazing!

How Nvidia is Suffocating AMD (and don't let us leave)

This means studio has a long history of releases with this tech. Comparing what Machinegames are able to do today with what new studio builds with any tech they are new to - whether it's their own or licensed - simply isn't fair.

Developers "purposefully disregard years of no-RT research". Sure, the purpose is for games to suck so he can direct people to his Patreon.

"RT is just a technique to retrieve information (...) and it should be only used when you have no other quality options to retrieve information which you find often with dynamic objects". Sure, why don't developers just use RT for dynamic objects and precalcs or "other quality sources of information" elsewhere. I guess having two lighting models and sets of data to feed them is optimization. Memory is free and dynamic objects will "just" blend with static objects which definitely don't need light contribution from dynamic objects.

Jeez Louise, dude is an total grifter. He has zero experience with anything beyond simple examples and tech demos and showcases config changes that give better results in a very specific situations. Doesn't matter that the moment you deviate from anything simple, his ironclad suggestions no longer work. And yes, temporal solutions have issues. I don't like them. But even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The thing with videos like this one is that anyone who takes issues with how games look or perform (valid issues, I should add) will listen to him complaining about everything that can be targeted and get the impression that he knows what he's talking about. Even if some of his observations are correct, his solutions and, most importantly, conclusions are mostly bogus. It's the tiring "lazy devs" argument all over again: if he can't see the reason something is the way it is, it must be incompetence and laziness.

And another BS video. Tessellation wasn't developed by Nvidia for Crysys. It was introduced in 360 which had ATI GPU and it was designed at Microsoft by Amar Patel (who was recently responsible for Shader hash bypass). First implementation sucked because tessellation happened before VS and you ended up with more vertices to process. So tessellating skinned meshes was a no-no but MS used it in Forza on cars and either Halo 3 or ODST (or both) for base terrain.

Nvidia Physx is not a "graphics physics system" (WTF does that even mean?) - it's tech acquired from Ageia when they miscalculated market for their PPUs. That "rabbit" is just Stanford bunny. No biggie. And Nvidia didn't introduce (hardware) RT in 2018, Caustic (later acquired by Imagination) did some five years earlier. Unity had hardware RT integration in 2017.

I remember times when something like Crysis would come out and people accepted that setting everything to ultra won't run on any modern hardware. These are settings for the future so 1) developer doesn't have to release updates around graphical features, and 2) game would be used as the de facto benchmark for the years to come. But nope! Can't set everything to ultra, lazy devs, bad tech.

We're in era of white twenty-something dudes being confidently wrong about everything on YT (or Twitch). I beg people to read about the topic they are commenting on.

Yeah really don't think we need a thread for these guys, perhaps a gutter ball thread named "Clueless influencer bullshit" or something? :)
It's kind of worrisome to see how many people cheer these videos on, though.
Just another example of how finding something people want to hear and then speaking to it with some confidence is enough these days.
