The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt ! [XO, PS4, NX, PS5, XBSX|S, PC]

@DSoup it will be awesome if the next elder scrolls can have that moment. The NPC that truli recognize us.

something like Mafia 2 intro scene where the folks remembers "hey its vito!" and showed their emotion. then when vito met NPC that now have worse life than when he left years ago.

I think witcher 3 do that a little bit. There's a town that praise you or something and no longer spit on you after you save it. Too bad most of the NPC acts like "animatronics".

In Skellige now. Best game ever for me ! Never have I smiled so much in a game, the references to the novels are everywhere, i mean everywhere, in al dialogues, in all missions. Best fan service ever ! My only complaint is that I can't do everything, as quests start becoming under-levelled for me pretty soon, cos I just do everything to hear all the stories, all the adventures. It gets very difficult to decide which quest to pursue and which to let go as any insignificant quest can turn out to be the best and most intriguing one of the day ! :runaway:

I am in heaven ! I have no idea how to do them all, btw. I am in SKellige, but I didn't want to ! as there was still a King to be assassinated and a sorceress to be captured in Novigrad which sounds so tempting ! I want to know what happens if I take one side over the other ! And Dandilion and ZOltan asked for my help too......!!!!

Well I turned the game off in frustration last night.

I'm on the Barron's abortion mission. wow, how vile. Anyhow I fight this dumb thing, which has ungodly amount of HP considering it was never born. Just when I get going it spawns wraiths.. WTF? OK, survive them and this dumb thing is back to full life? Ten minutes later I get it to half health again and it starts healing. I give up, my sword is damaged and I bored. What am I doing wrong? I used a potion to increase damage, but can't make more in combat. I have a level 6 sword. I'm level 6 like the mission suggest. I must be doing something wrong, right? Or is the game just this unbalanced?

Before this mission the game was never really hard, deaths mostly from janky combat and poor camera placement.

This is what I did.

I didn't kill the "baby monster", don't 'remember the name of the creature, and instead chose the other option and the Baron carries him away to transform it into a "lubricane" or something like that...I don't' remember that either.
You will have to deal with the wraiths alone to the path back to the castle.
I used this tactic on them: attack a warith and roll, don't' doge, away when it appears next you, rise and repeat (wraiths are really that stupid)...easier said than done because:
1) Geralt is POS so its attacks do little damage even at the the level suggested for the quest so it takes way too much time to kill a wraith in its physical form anyway even if they don't any ANY defence/armor whatsoever.
2) many attacks didn't register and signs were delayed most of the times thanks to the input lag;
3) I don't use the counter on ANY monster/creature because it doesn't really work/register even when you see the animation triggering, it's literally useless.
4) blocking is almost useless because almost all the wraiths attacks are unblockable even if they look blockable BUT I kept blocking just in case they mercifully used an blockable attack.
5) when one or more wraiths appeared the frame rate dips drastically and so you are at the mercy of lag, i died many times during that quest because basically pressing a button resulted into nothing and gerlt was getting slaughtered as I pointlessly kept pressing dodge.
6) the crossbow is useless, it does little/no damage and Geralt often forgets "reload" it even if you stay still so I don't' use
7) Geralt sometimes put away is sword to fight bare handed the enemy???
8) did I mention that Geralt is a POS!?

I too feel that the game is unbalanced, but I realized that when I play stupid and only use two buttons (attack, doge) I win, it just takes more time to kill anything and I get bored too but it works on everything.

I don't know why my no-fight option failed, I'll try that again. I also think my silver sword is the default, so my upgraded steel sword is doing me no good. I have yet to see a silver sword drop or be an option in a store. I suppose I'm supposed to forge one, but I don't have the required items to build much of anything.

You need to get a good silver sword. I only ever used the steel for human foes. You can find some really nice ones off the beaten path in ruins but get ready to run if there are beasties around. I didn't fight the gross baby thing either but I agree the wraiths can be a bugger. You basically need to cast Yrden and wait for them to come to you. Whack as many times as you can in the ring (having typed that I instantly can see how wrong it is <lol>) and roll back when Geralt inevitably lunges after the enemy. Keep the Yrden cast and you should win by attrition alone.

The feline crossbow is the best one to get but that is lvl20ish, but it doesn't make the whole rubbish firing mechanism any better. But you can kill things with it.

And I didn't get the whole putting his sword away thing either. It seems to happen randomly in fights, I guess the threat awareness code fails. Though I can kill wolves, dogs, and nekkers with one or two punches now. But not basilisks. That never works.

Against multiple enemies, it's not that easy.
I use three signs, and a combination of them in almost every battle.
The shield is very useful even if you haven't upgraded it at all, and the sign that influences the monsters mind is essential for some fights.
When fighting multiple wraiths for example I use both the shield and the trap.
And I love Igni because... fire :p (although it is kind of useless against the aformentioned)

Did that mission at a similar level. Don't kill the creature -more xp, plus you will feel good-. Use Axii to calm it, switch to Yrden for a while when wraiths appear, let wraiths enter the circle and you shall prevail. Quen wouldn't hurt either.

I started on Hard, the game is frustrating at first, quite difficult, in Velen.

But once you are level 18 or so and have the Cat gear :) -I shared a guide on how to find it, it's easy-, set your favourite signs, place some points in Light Attack, a point in the passive ability Cat School Techniques, another point in Sun and Stars, and.... You'll basically give a hell of a fight to 90% of the monsters in Velen without losing the challenging side of the game, save for a few level 28 or level 30 monsters.

I am clearing question marks now to get "free" ability points via places of power. This game is soooo fun. :)

Still, until level 15-16 and without that gear it can be a bit frustrating for some people, difficulty wise. To find the school Cat gear...which I'd recommend to do asap, this is the best guide. And there is no fighting involved to get it, so... :)

I wanted to ask you this before, and it isn't a direct reply to the quoted post in particular, but... do you remember where did you find the dead whale in Velen? I'd like to find it and take a screengrab to share with my friends.

I tried, but it lead to the same fight just in a different spot. Weird.
I didn't have to fight the little dude at all ! Be a good guy sometimes, no need to kill unborn babies :runaway: !

As for combat, I was in a similar no win situation against a noonwraith yesterday, but I reloaded the game, used the correct oil, th correct bomb and managed my stamina instead of just whacking away and it felt so easy that I felt dumb for just spamming buttons earlier. Chaining signs +bombs works wonders for me. I doe only when I let go of caution and spam square. I believe the combat requires u to constantly think about it, holding L2 and changing signs to suit needs with d-pad is a must. Pre calculated strategy has to be modified on a moment to moment basis.

Of course, ur method will vary depending on what u specialise in. My whole combat is around my signs, so if I keep my stamina under check and change signs on the fly to manage the situation, I come out with flying colours. The thing is I keep forgetting I have so many useful bombs. They can make any fight easier but I keep forgetting about them [emoji14]

The game asks u to use all aspects of it, except oils I guess, which can be neglected on normal difficulty. If u jiggle between them and create combos, u will down anything.

Edit: and I was swimming is silver swords by the time I hit that story mission. You need to explore more :)....the side quests are anyways more interesting than the main quest. Look for treasures, the always have kickass weapons. Usually, the witch hunters drop the best swords, the relic ones. So loot them well.

BTW, can someone tell me how much of the main quest is left for me? I just reached skellige islands. I am thinking of completing the quest in this play through and keep this save and return to it for doing ALL the side missions.

That's a good idea, actually, never thought of it. I didn't buy the passage to Skellige yet, but it's the only active quest I have now in the main story quest list.

Some vistas in this game are breathtaking. A couple of screengrabs of mine, taken today:

Additionally, the HDR in this game is so intense, incredible (it's the light of the sun which at that particular camera angle bathed the screen, it was so realistic, if you move the camera you didn't see the sun being so intense). I took this screenshot days ago. Amazing stuff from CD Projekt:

I upgraded Quen and I tried for 30 minutes in fights but every time it exploded dealt no/little damage to the enemy.
I reloaded and upgraded Axi instead to get more options in dialogues, which I discovered are very few but still at least it works.
The "mind control" upgrade to Axi was excellent but basically I spent my fights doing nothing so I decided not to get it...I like to be effective in combat but not to the point that I just sit and watch.
I will try Quen shield, the one that regen HP, but I fear that it would make the combat even easier.
Yarden and Aard don't do it for me: Yarden IMO doesn't slow the enemy enough even I when upgraded it so I still prefer to doge anyway and Aard so far has been good only to break doors and nothing less.
Really using Aard to push an enemy back seems to work only few times and they get up so quickly + the recovery for Aard is just as long as other Signs so I find it very underpowered.
I tried Aard alternative fire and I don't find it useful.
i like Igni.

I will look for it today, as soon as I find it I send you a PM.

If you're still equipped with the original (or a very early) silver sword then this is likely the problem. I have seen a lot of silver swords drop and swapped both of my swords with new sword regularly until I got the first tier feline sword set at level 14 (although you can get them easily and equip them at level 13) which lasted me about 5-6 levels then I had a better silver sword drop only to replace that very soon after with the next tier of feline silver sword.

Perhaps you've have been unlucky with sword drops but I have seen silver swords for sale although can't remember where. For me the Wraith fight was no big deal without any prep so you should should try again using spectre oil on your sword and pop some potions - Swallow for enhanced regeneration. Also have some decent food/drink ready for consumption - something that'll last 10 seconds at least, preferably 20.

edit: typos.

My specs are combat based. I too like to be effective in combat, not have an "I win" button.
I have only one point in Axi, and use it to prevent a monster's special ability (like regeneration, it works on every monster but a few). ;)
The only sign I have three points in, is Igni (because it's fun) and two in Quen, because it is a life saver!

It wasn't the wraiths, it was the
baby
, but I restarted and finally figured out how to get the less fighting version. apparently if you get to far ahead it triggers the fight. I still can't find any silver swords, vendors don't sell them and the only plans I have for one is level 13. I guess I can jump on my trusty horse and ride around randomly looking for treasure. Great design! Why don't they just have stores with lots of stuff for sale? Seems like every person who sells stuff only has a few worthless things. Most of my money is spent fixing my gear or buying really expensive food. You can go broke buying water in this game...

Its like u are playing some totally other game :???: ! Buying food???? I never even thought of that , i mean ever ! Food is everywhere, just loot man ! Loot everything u see ! Repairing will not be an issue once u get better weapons and the game neatly marks treasure locations with Question marks, you just need to read the notice board once ! And weapons, they are everywhere, literally :runaway: ! Are u not doing anything except story missions? Trust me, its living ur life as a Witcher, hunting monsters and solving moral dilemnas where the game lies. ANd a lot of side messions are placed directly in the path of ur main mission, so that u don't miss them. The main quest is just a thread to to take u to different places.
