The Darkness?

The Darkness is a wonderfully gruesome adventure. There are some truly dark and even shocking moments in the story. There's a twist at the end of the first chapter that shook me a bit. And though the story does lose its way and makes little sense towards the end, it's still a fun ride. It's too bad that the AI and gameplay mechanics couldn't be smoothed out a bit more to match the impressive visual presentation. The PlayStation 3 version is virtually identical to the 360, other than the occasional aliasing issues and sporadic slowdown.

There's a lot to like about The Darkness, even if it doesn't fully come together in the end. With so few gaming options in the summer, this is certainly a title worth buying. Just don't expect a revolutionary experience.

Opinions are like assholes. The IGN guy's biggest complaint seems to be the fact that you constantly have to break lights through the whole game. Personally, I think it's a pretty cool gameplay mechanic.

PS3 version is superior since it's averaging 87.7% review scores vs. the 360's 80% according to gamerankings.com

scores are usually based upon the competition of games form the same console. Not judged against other consoles.

Seeing as there is not a whole lot to choose from in the AAA category on PS3, games like this should/would/could score higher than a 360 game with a boatload of excellent competition within it's own ranks.

Nah, there's an easier explanation. Only 3 reviews have been recorded for the PS3 version by Gamerankings, whereas they're averaging 8 for the 360. The PS3 version has been scoring the same or slightly less from the main gaming sites, though none of their scores have yet to be added to Gamerankings' database save for 1UP.

not from what the people who own it are saying... read my link (more than one reviewer who may not have been looking for it)

they see no AA or motion blur in PS3 version

I read your link, but I think theres more sense in trusting the IGN review than a forum user.

Can someone provide more info on the comics that are supposedly included? I find that very interesting. Are there full comics or just covers and crap like that? Plus I like that movie viewing functionality, quite cool if a bit gimicky.

The IGN review may be slightly ambiguous on this topic, but I'm pretty sure the reviewer agrees with the impression posted in your link: the PS3 version lacks AA at times and has a worse frame rate. Or am I completely misreading something here?

I will verify that the PS3 version does not exhibit AA or motion blur. I'm a little dissappointed (not trying to be a graphic snob) because it's actually very noticable and becomes distracting on my 70" screen. Framerates are pretty solid - 4 hours in and only noticed a few stutters here and there. All in all though a pretty cool game considering what we have available to play on the PS3 at this time.

than a forum user.

several forum users (gamers who are actually comparing and looking for these differences, not just giving a cursory glance at the other system's game for a comment in a review)

I know you read the technical forum here. It's been stated several times how much easier it is to implement AA and motion blur effects on Xenos. This is just another example of that in yet another multiplayer game IMO.

oh and not to mention... no rumble on PS3 version of course... we seem to have forgotten that (pretty big) difference IMO. But it still is another thing that is different between the versions not mentioned by the IGN reviewer.

Is it about that time to toss Starbreeze under the bus as another studio who is:
A. Paid off by M$ < notice my clever use of $!
B. Doesn't have the programming skills for the awesomeness of the PS3
C. Lazy (my personal favorite)
D. All of the above

The only legitimate complaint really against this game is that it's short. Hopefully they release a bundle with this and the Riddick remake for $40 (longshot?) because that'll definitely be worth buying. I really want to own a game like this because it looks unique and like something you can replay, but then you can beat it in one sitting.

From the reviews I've seen, its seems that the 360 version suffers LESS slowdown/framedrops and better AA.

Does this mean the 360 version is superior?;)

I'll just wait a year and play it on my PC.

I wonder why that is *cough*360 DVD9*cough* ;)

I personally dont like the look of the game, im a racer fan :D

There looks to be AA on the PS3 version but not alot. 2X? if that's how it works on consoles I don't know. You can notice the jaggies when you are walking around exploring and looking for them, but most of the time you just don't see them.
The game is pretty good so far,I just got my dark powers and am have just gotten some mission options. My first impression is that it's pretty good.
