The capabilities I want in next-generation hardware

Of course you can buy sets (plasma, LCD, projectors) that are capable of displaying HDTV resolution (and beyond?), but in most of EU here is absolutely no plans for HDTV broadcasting.
It'll be a very small minority ownig those displays, unless prices come drastically down.

In theory DVB-t as used in europe supports HDTV I think, in practice in open competition for spectrum and customers HDTV probably is not commercially viable Rather ironic how the US is leading Europe with HDTV by restricting competition ... that is supposed to be our perogative damn you!
BTW my greatest hope for new display tech remains laser scanned displays ... if they can find a way to make highly efficient high powered semiconductor lasers for the three primary colors, these kinds of displays can be made ridiculously cheap compared to all other forms of display. At least for large screens.

What i want . is around 700 million polygons persecond . 4-6x fsaa . 16tap aniso on everything . I don't want a blue ray player . I don't want a dvd player or a tivo. I just want a pure game machine . I want nice controllers. Or even a choice of controllers. I'm very disapointed in the 3 controllers this gen (the dreamcast wasn't that good either) And i want my own hot girl to come with the system. But she has to be able to chuck back a few beers and she has to like soccer and my cooking . That is it . Anyway I'm going to italy for a few weeks . SO i dunno how much i will be on but i will be watching

FFX CGI in realtime next gen would satisfiy me also. although I like to use other examples since FFX is not my favorite CGI. but I won't say anything that is beyond FFX quality, just something else that's in the same leauge.

- hair and clothes truly reacting to the wind
- weather conditions such as wind, snow, etc, truly affecting the environment
- Insanely detailed character models
- Natural cloth motion when your character is moving, as if he/she/it were actually wearing them.
- Face animation taken to new levels
- Plenty of animation in the background
- Great textures
- Gigantic poly counts
- Plenty of cinematic effects
- Decent ammount of RAM
- As close to FF:TSW as possible

A small town called molfeta . My family comes from there and my second cousin just got married so I'm off to say hi. And hang out with my younger second cousin (my age) And hit the disco techs . I've already done rome and venice before. i go like once a year or so .
