i wish the picture was bigger :/

Looking at the floor plan for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show on September 16th is like gazing into an episode of the Twilight Zone that, at first, makes no sense at all. At a show like TGS, booth sizes tend to be pretty important. Basically, if you have a big booth, you'll have lots to show and you will have a pretty big presence. So going by that logic, shouldn't Microsoft who is using TGS as a pinnacle moment to show off the Xbox 360 in Japan...have the biggest booth? Well for some reason Microsoft's booth, while being moderate sized, is notably smaller than Konami, Namco, and even Sega. This is the first odd thing we noticed.

The next thing that should catch one's eye is the Square Enix booth located in the smaller developers room. Square Enix has always had a huge presence at TGS with vast kingdoms filled with tons of games and a giant screen for displaying trailers and events. Yet this time around, they have one of the smallest booths at the show. It is a bit surprising, and it definitely leaves us wondering if maybe they blew their wad a little too much on their earlier Square Enix Party back in July. But then again, with Final Fantasy XII not appearing at the show it might be better for them to not play up their appearance at this time.

The Last oddity is the huge Sega booth. While Sega was once a company with a giant presence back when they were a hardware player, lately they've been much smaller and closer to the booth size of developers such as Capcom or Tecmo. But this time around Sega is second in size only to the Sony booth! Does this mean they have some hidden games in store for show goers that will knock them off their feet? Well, We will have to wait 'til September 16th to find out. But then again, with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 guaranteed to be duking it out at the show...maybe we'll see some really big games revealed from Sega. Can anyone say, next-gen Sonic or maybe a Virtua Fighter 5 home port?

*sorry if this was already posted

I thought MS had a smaller booth because they don't have as much Japanese developer support. Sony has a bunch of PS2, PSP and PS3 titles to show. MS has a few X360 titles to show. It's not surprising to me, anyway, that MS's real estate is smaller than others.

Nintendo has already made it clear that they weren't going to be at TGS. They must have something very important to show that they don't want others to see. But it's almost a given that they'll be observing everyone elses secrets during that time, however.

Interesting to note that Tecmo and MS are next to each other again! They've been in adjacent spots for the past 3-4 TGS shows. MS has always been in the "2nd tier" hall. Seems like Tecmo and MS have displaced Square Enix and From Software from the main hall.

What about the 200 Xbox titles in the works?

Not to be mean, but who in Japan is going to care about them? Let's be realistic here. They are better off forgetting Xbox 1 ever existed in Japan and showing off what has a chance of getting sold.

I was thinking more interms of developer support. But I guess if the unit isn't having its best time there, it kinda hampers all.

Read what I said again: Japanese developer support. For the Xbox, that looks like what? Ninja Gaiden Black?
The Xbox is dead in Japan. Heck, it never really lived there. Why promote it?

To be honest, I'm not sure why you're so focused on MS here. You're not really a fan of theirs (which is perfectly fine), so why care?

Microsoft has one more time to redeem themself. That's all I have to say.
Thanks for the insightful comment. I'll be sure to dwell on this for a while. "One more chance, Microsoft. One more chance to win Spidermate over."

Of course, not very fruitful discussion though, is it?

By the way, in order to contribute to the discussion I'll add this: I hardly doubt TGS is the "make or break" moment for Xbox 360. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen any correlation between how Company A does at a Convention X and how Company A does in the market. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'll even go one step further and say that it isn't launch that's important at all. It's 6 months after launch. Only then will we have some true idea whether "Microsoft has one more chance."

I'm really hoping we get to see some in-game footage of PD0, and what about the the "unnamed but virtually finished" game we keep hearing about? The one they were supposed to name at GDC?

Hopefully we see some good content.

n the subject of booth size, did anyone really expect MS to have more japanese x360 stuff to show vs Sony's PS2, PSP and PS3 stuff?

everyone should know, all amazing xbox 360 footage that you guys care about will be in X05. TGS will only show japanese games for Xbox 360

K so according to you Microsoft still doesn't give a crap about the Asian market.. good strategy..NOT

Microsoft is really trying in Japan for support and

getting exclusives. We shall see if this strategy works.

Some of you think that MS should not waste their time in Japan.
Some of you also should not run a business.

They should do better than Xbox 1 eventually (not probably on launch day),
but things are really looking up and people not thrilled to buy an Xbox right now
will probably want an Xbox 360 sometime over the next five years in japan.

It will be a slow process until the games start catching on and then you will
begin to see people from Japan buying the Xbox 360. Of course the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360 bigtime, but it still will sell much, much, much better than Xbox 1 over time.
