Target says sony is droping ps2 price

If PS2 were dropped to 99 dollars tomorrow GC sales picking up would seem like a non event.

So many PS2's would be sold it wouldn't even be funny. Although 200 to 99 is a major drop.. seems hard to believe.

Even still a sony/MS price drop is one of the ways interest coudl be taken away from the gamecube price drop. Also, it's been rumored to be happening for a while.

perhaps it will be the non bb version and the bb version will hit 150 or even stay at 179 . Or perhaps they are trying to get rid of the old systems and getting rdy to launch something new

Isn't there a €20/$20 difference in price between the old and the new PS2 models?

30$ i believe . Not sure as I'm not really in a market to buy one right now. But it may be an atempt to get rid of the old stock ? Or mabye the warehouses are full .

As I said in a different post, if they drop much of anything, it's probably to pick up sales over the holidays and clear out the old unit. I highly doubt any sort of perminant change, nor the 50k series going to $99. I wouldn't have expected that low for the holidays, though...

Maybe $99 for the original unit, $129-139 for the 50k units over the holidays, and each going up $40 or so after the holidays? Offhand that'd be my guess if the $99 is actually happening.

I doubt it. 50K model is silently replacing the older models in the stores from what I've seen.

I don't think this price drop is happening, btw. and it's even less likely it's going to drop to $99. I've seen where this rumor originated, and it's just a hearsay from some forumgoer that IGN picked up.

The fact of the matter is even if both Sony and MS drop their prices, it might not be as gloomy for Nintendo as some might think. At $99 it will attract new gamers and those already with a system or two, thus it should still be selling better than before.

As I've stated before its at a price that will be more attractive to it's market than the others.

Imagine at $99 a pop for each system, this world will have a lot of multisystems owners. :D

Yes, but in every store I've seen it in so far it's also been priced $20 higher, which is why I figure a $99 price level--if offered--would just be for the old unit. (Though for the holidays, at least, they couldn't keep the new model priced WAY higher or they wouldn't sell any at all. I figure if they do anything, they'd keep the price difference intact, then let things normalize after the crush at the level they'd rather sell at.)

'twill all be confusing no matter what. Hehe...

not to be of-topic,

but i saw the new PS2 models in the shops here in London (the ones that can read DVDRW, are more quiet and stuff like that)...

does anyone know whether they also support progressive scan DVD playback like the NTSC ones?? doesnt mention anything about it on the box....

remember i'm talking about the PAL one...

well i wouldnt know... i know that the new models are pretty much the same new models released in the US and japan. the ones that support progressive scan DVD playback... i think its code is something like SR50003 or some code like that....

all i want to know is, is progressive scan DVD playback still enabled on the PAL machines? cause if it is, then i'll just sell my ps2 bought at launch and buy that new version, which also comes in silver so that would make for one sexxxy setup
