yeap, Matrox again...

hard to say what is it, but It could be long waited newer revision of Parhelia or rumoured lowered version of Parhelia for HTPC and other integrated markets. (which could be competive if priced correctly, but hard to say if that's possible... we are talking about The Management(tm.) here.)

I highly doubt it could be anything that has full DX9 feature set...

EDIT: Let's see if some Jackass gets something funny out of this.

mmkay.... now I am a bit wiser...

don't expect extraordinary fast 3D, but HTPC users should be happy. as well as I am definately checking this for Hercules GF DDR replacement on 2nd computer.

Matrox, just keep the pricing in the limits of common sense... that's what I am hoping for...

G400 --> G450 --> G550
Parhelia --> P450 --> P550

Edit: I hope they include that killer app.............What was the name...........Headcasting!!! My dog love it......

Hard to say really if even this is that AGP8x revision... (it would have had some nice updgrades, though... more than just AGP8x support.)

we just have to wait and see. Most likely this is the Matrox's entry to class where money is made. (I don't see why they can't make some success with it if price is sensible (and that was something made me lift my eyebrowns...). though 3D isn't fastest on the market, it should be on same range as the original Parhelia has with nowadays drivers.)

but let's wait and see. until they have done the announcement, we can't be sure...

Maybe they are going to announce a portable, cumquat-powered chip-butty maker.

MuFu.

Chip Butty's are so 90's... I wanna Chicken Tikka Shish Kabob mixer..

There is not a need to get excited on more rumours from Matrox/S3/Bitboys/ATi/NVIDIA/PowerVR...

The proof is in the pudding and Matrox got no dessert.

I get a lot of jokes in email also. Would you like me to forward some?

(p.s. lighten up. Its just a joke. I was going to do the same to K.I.L.E.R, in his "Severe performance problem" thread, but he never actually said "i have severe performance problems". You were just unlucky enough to provide the fodder for a lame joke.)

:p

Hey I thought Russ' joke was funny! :D

But I fail to see how Matrox can corner any niche when they don't have DX9 checkbox features of the latest competing parts or access the economies of scale of their competitors or the frequent driver updates.

The fancy colour output etc. will either make the board too expensive for the mainstream or simply be dropped.

If they do put a cut down Parhelia out, it would seem to be a turkey. But then it wouldn't be the first time... :rolleyes:

I get a lot of email's about that every day. Should I forward some to you?

Russ, I think you might have stumbled on to something. Instead of using heatsinks and fans, we should just strap a couple of those blue (?) pills onto the graphics chips.

Of course that might have the side effect of precluding any curved surfaces - just allowing the rendering of straight lines.

Hmmm..... don't you think this is a job for Kyle & Brent at [H]ard OCP? :oops: :LOL:

One thing that might be of slight interest that I recall of Matrox long ago in 2D-only days when I used nothing but Matrox, is the fact that (as I recall it) their first efforts at VGA pretty much sucked. A couple of re-designs later and everyone else was scrambling to catch up...;) It would be nice to see them pull something nice and extremely competitive out of their 3D efforts for a change. A Parhelia with some needed modifications running ~150MHz faster might be nice...

I think we're much more likely to see a cheaper card aimed fairly and squarely at both the corporate desktop market and the home theatre PC market - ie the usual excellent multihead and TV support, but based on the Parhelia core.
