So there's a presentation with a XB360 in four hours.

MS guy running it, actual XB360, etc. Any questions I should ask? Can't guarantee that I'm going to go, but I'll try.

I have more basic functionality questions than anything:

1. Ask for a ballpark estimate on the number of XBOX titles X360 will be backwards compatible with at launch, and if Microsoft still intends to adds more games via Live over time.

2. Ask for clarification whether X360 will support all of the same Aegia Physics SDK features as the PS3 (Aegia seemed to express doubts about certain types of simulations due to the architecture of the X360 CPU, their complex water being one IIRC). If not, will XBOX360 use a different implementation that results in a similar visual effect?

3. (edited out, answered below)

4. What is technically preventing the XBOX360 from utilizing all of the "Media Center PC" sharing features (i.e. movies) with Windows XP when other products with similar media sharing features work fine with XP?

5. Will FMVs be stored at 720x480 resolution (standard definition) or 1280x720 resolution (high definition) by default given the limited size of the standard definition DVD media XBOX360 uses?

6. (edited out, answered below)

The answer to #3 is that HDD and memory card are interchangeable.

And #6, 5.1 has already been confirmed as a requirement.

heh cool. one more:

7. Will saved games for the offline portions of games or offline games be more portable this generation? i.e. many XBOX games (i.e. Dead or Alive 3, Burnout 2) had their saved games locked to the specific XBOX console the game was saved on.

Baron out of curiosity, what's the context of this presentation by the way?
TBH I'm not entirely sure. The guy giving the presentation is a "lead design program manager," whatever that means, and it seems to be something of a MS recruitment thing (although they are making a big deal about the XB360 being there)...

and I just googled the guy's name and came up with hits that suggest that he's just a UI designer (maybe the head UI designer?). I feel cheated. Must have been an HCI or design presentation, which is why I heard about it secondhand.

might still go... but I doubt there will be any technical questions possible. yarrrrrr. upset.

HCI? In that case ask him why MS are only supporting boring control systems with no Revolutionor EyeToy type interfaces as standard :p

Please ask how far along are they from implementing the suggested Software-Based Backwards Compatibility feature on the XBOX 360?

Will it be sold seperately or will it be a downloadable feature on XBOX LIve?

Best game ever.

4. What is technically preventing the XBOX360 from utilizing all of the "Media Center PC" sharing features (i.e. movies) with Windows XP when other products with similar media sharing features work fine with XP?
I think I can answer this one: nothing.

I'm still amazed at how good that game was. Can you imagine a game with that writing and detail, using todays graphics technologies?

Nite_Hawk

So what game are you talking about?

So what did happen in this presentation?
Turned out it was exactly what I thought it would be--MS recruiting along with a demo of the XB360 UI. Nothing special, apparently. (I didn't actually go, because I finally saw an actual sign for it instead of the hype I was hearing secondhand--and yeah, they were demoing the XB360 UI, not any games or anything else. And it sounded like no hardware questions, just "How is working for MS?" questions.)

Planescape: Torment

I fear that the mediocre sales of PS:T have severly reduced the chances of any publisher funding development of a similarly "brainy" (for lack of a better term) game again.
