marconelly! said:8.4 is pretty damn good for Gamespot. SH2 got much lower than that. At least they gave SH3 a 10 for graphics, as it deserves.
Zurich, can you give me the phone number of that EB store that is selling it for $50. I called my local EB yesterday, and they told me it's $75. If I tell them one of their stores is selling it for $50 maybe they will lower the price.

I've been in Canada for few years now, but I'm not exactly a Canadian. Why the surprise?
*hmpf* I just gave that store a call and they told me the price is $59.99
I didn't ask for Melanie, though.
OK, so what Best Buy number should they call? I can't find any number on bestbuy.ca site.Yea, you have to get them to price match with Best Buy, then you get it for $49.99

I think i know what you're saying about cutscenes, but I think it's only because it's kinda impossible to perform 100% film quality DOF in realtime, so you have blurry backgrounds, and very sharp characters (not even the slighest blurring around farther edges of character's face/body) I think that when they show those extreme closeups, they show such a small part of background that there's not much detail there to begin with, but cosidering some of the scenes actually switch instantly from closeups to wider shots, I doubt they would fake anythig with bitmaps, it would just waste precious memory.

Anyone who's finished both have an idea how much regurgitation went on (and I mean reusing SH2 assets )?
I guess I can't really complain too much since I got the game for very cheap, but it still irks me too see this..
(the SH2:RD flashlight still rocks the socks off of the SH3 one 8) )

IMO, for SH2 I like the PC version the most. 1024x768 4xAA 16xAF on R9700Pro rocks.
SH3 may have reused some of the content from SH2, the effects in alternate hospotal is very good. Have you been to the Storage room ?
OOOOh man, the storage room will definitely go down as one of my top video game moments, ever

Dark BH Hospital was quite amazing, but I couldn't find a map anywhere?? That alone made it more than a little frustrating
zurich said:Visually, the game is an absolute tour de force. Best models I've seen anywhere thus far, load times are about half a second, great textures and art.. the only thing holding it back is the horribly ugly & distracting flashlight effect Ah well, unless Konami wants to break up walls and floors into an obscene number of vertices, nothing they can really do about that :?
I can't, however, decide whether or not I like the story yet, but I'm only 4 hours in (at the Amusement Park now). Some elements of the game are just too frustrating, and really take away from the atmosphere.. like the annoying enemies (split-head dog things, worst are the crawlers that knock you down everytime, GRRR) and insta-deaths (falling to your death? wtf is this, a platformer? [honourable mention goes to the subway]).
The more I play SH2 the more I like SH2 more than SH3. SH3 is more like usual horror games while SH2 is not as explicit as SH3.
No doubt, but it seems to me they did something with flashlight in SH3 to make it better looking than PS2 SH2. Made the center of the light brighter or something. Also, in the part of the demo where I could use the flashlight (amusment park at the very beginning of the game) I simply couldn't see *any* of that ugly triangulating effect, and I was looking for it. I guess it's just worse in some rooms than it is in others, just like it was in SH2, right?the SH2:RD flashlight still rocks the socks off of the SH3 one
Heh, not true. Maybe they should have asked Primal/Ghosthunter team for help as those two games definitely feature dynamic lightmaps for their flashlight, just like XB SH2 Then again, I think Cambridge team should have asked Konami for help with everything else, most importantly art directionunless Konami wants to break up walls and floors into an obscene number of vertices, nothing they can really do about that
marconelly! said:PC version was by far the worst in that polish department, due to non-softened shadows and some small but weird texture artifacting.
