SGI Visualization Demo challenge

Too bad it's US/Canada only.

Talking about demo contests ... what's the status of the Beyond3D shader competition? Weren't the winners to be presented late september / early october? We're going into mid-october now.

Well, NVIDIA officially decided that "early October" had to be extended up to over the 20th. So I guess B3D's is still early right now :D
( *cough* drivers *cough* )

Uttar

EDIT: Does seem like some VERY nice prizes, though! :)

Just get a friend in the US/Canada to submit your code for you.

Well, since entries aren't due until February 1, 2004 I suppose I might already be over there at that time.

Did you get another job at ATI? Or are you just in the process of looking for work over here? And whats going on with the B3d contest anyway? Are there just not enough entries? And yes the 3dmark03 scores would be insane with a system like this but for some reason I don't think these SGI systems can run Windows XP :p They can't right?

Well, when I left I was offered to return once my education is done. I had a couple of other options too, but I've pretty much struck those from the list, so in all likelyhood I'm returning.

Nothing better to do than go work for ATI? You poor thing

How sweet it would be to have one of those boxes 8)

Lol, yeah. Well, since I had a number of other offers it would be silly not to explore them too. I had an offer from a japanese company called Digital Media Professionals who offered a fat salary, but then Japan is very expensive and I don't think it would be quite as easy to adjust to the culture and language and what not. Then I had an offer from CryTek in Germany, which sounded great until I heard the salary levels and the long intership period I would have to go through with even lower salary. So it's basically just ATI left on the list right now. ATI is of course fun, but it's not the perfect-in-every-sense kind of job either.

The SGI Onyx4 UltimateVision systems are supposed to go upto 32-core
R3xx systems. You'd think SGI would go all out and do a 256-core system, just for bragging rights, what's holding them back? :?
