Tokyo-based Sega Sammy did not give comparative figures from the previous year because the company was formed last October through the merger of two separate entertainment firms, Sega and Sammy. But the company had projected net income of 10.7 billion yen for the period.
Sales totaled 110.5 billion yen ($986.6 million) in the fiscal first quarter, also in line with the company's previous forecast.
Results were helped by the sale of 153,000 pachinko machines and 1.86 million copies of game software in the period, particularly copies of the game "The Kind of Beetle Mushiking: Road to the Greatest Champion," which was launched last month, the company said.
Shares of Sega Sammy, which have risen about 27 percent this year, climbed 1.1 percent to 7,120 yen. The company released earnings after the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed Wednesday.
