Seasonal names I wish all Americans would forget

g__day

Regular
Take it as read most Americans will never understand cricket. Well its about that complex for those of us down under to understand when a product relased in fall next year should arrive.

Southern hemisphere revereses our seasons - and we call it Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Fall I guess is your Autumn which makes it our Spring I guess - Sept - Nov.

It would be so much more helpful if in international reviews if folks simply said product X will be out in Quarter 3 or around Oct.

Translating "Fall" around hemispheres is a pain in the arse!

Errmm... I'm in england so i see what u're saying... I get confused sometimes... However... If u're the first one to acknowledge that in the end Fall is Sept-Oct-Nov... Then what's the prob? ;)

It's even more tough in old blighty, 'cos the seasons tend to go Winter, Winter, Spring-tumn, Winter. :)

That's a bit unfair. It may be the utter pits at the moment but Summer in Blighty was pretty damned good this year.

Well I was out swimming in April this year..... except we were in Brisbane, Darwin, and Cairns :) ... but, still, October here was warm.

I must say, it feels like i've been colder in the past compared to this year... I mean it's cold now, but not as cold as i remember from last year/2 years ago... Maybe it's me... I'm getting tougher

The past few years have certainly been warmer, especially the winters. It seems to me there's been a bit of an explosion in the population of small birds, who usually get caned by tough winters. Could be wrong though, this is all just subjective, from memory. Would be interesting to see some proper measurements and observations.

Sure about that? (Can't believe i'm actually discussing about something this lame) I had the impressions that birds population in general has gone down a lot... Except pigeons, they ALWAYS survive... I'm sure if this planet was struck by a meteorite and all living creatures were extinct, PIGEONS would be the only survivors... F**king things... They would have the whole planet to shit on... Not like it's a problem for them now...  :devilish:

That's quite true at my place. It's friggin odd, I'm almost by the artic circle, it's mid-december, the sun hardly goes above the horizon at all, yet there's still no snow and +1C. :? We should have had snow for about two months by now.

It's the pigeons.

Southern hemisphere revereses our seasons - and we call it Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Fall I guess is your Autumn which makes it our Spring I guess - Sept - Nov.

The way Americans call their equivalent of Autumn "Fall" is quite poetic really, relating I assume to the fall of leaves from the trees.

The problem is that if we were to do the same in the UK, we'd end up with seasons called Often wet (Summer), Usually wet (Autumn), Cold and wet (Winter) and Still wet. :)

HAHAHAHAHAHH or Grey, Greyer than usual, Dark, Grey-ish..... u associate the seasons

I worked in Dublin for a year - it amazed me what long days you have in Summer and how anyone could have a 4 hour day in Winter - if you don't go out at lunch time you don't get to see the Sun - amazing.

Also the sky is colour a faint greyish blue on a clear day - never a burning azure blue. I really found that depressed things at times. Folk were great and the country in spot had a fairy tale feel to it. But we never had a day when you could cook steaks simply by putting them on a steel plate left that had been left in the Sun for for an hour or two. The road or beach for that matter was never too hot to absolutely deny walking barefoot across it... things I grew up with :)

Here in Arizona (Phoenix metro area) we have had snow on the ground I think twice in the last 20 years, and then it only lasted for an hour or two.

Bah! Right now we're having 3.5h days, and it's getting a few minutes shorter every day. Sun up today at 9:40, down at 13:09.

Snapped this shot the other day. It's about as high the sun goes above the horizon.
