Looks as though the RV250 will be aimed at the low end market. Ment to compete with geforce 4 MX cards. If this is the case then ATI has raised the bar for the low end market. According to this link http://www.vr-zone.com/#2515 it only performes at a slightly low speed then the Radeon 8500. A real OEM card priced around the same as the geforce 4MX series. It will be interesting to see the pricing on these cards.

Yes, the RV250 is aimed at the value market.

Is it a bad thing? I don't think so. Look at this way, ATI will be providing full DX8 supporting hardware at a budget price. If they they get some major OEM wins, and the price is right, well that would mean we will see the lowest common denominator (GeForce2MX) move up a notch. Actually, some pc's still ship with TNT M64's

Its about time we get some full DX8 compliant cards out to the masses as soon as possible, even its not as fast as you and I would like it to be.

I think we put too much emphasis on the enthusiast market, the value market is what makes the industry go'round.

Imagine the sort of games we will be playing if the value market steps up to the next level, and stays in touch with the enthusiast market.

Well, I'll ask more pointedly: why is the P4 outscoring the Athlon by 20-45%? The gap seems way too large.

[speculation]maybe the RV250 was changed in a way that it requres more support from the CPU for specific features and the drivers are far more optimized for Intel...
or maybe its just a bug, remember, one review is no review... ;)
[/speculation]
