Revolution out in mid-2006, uses MoSys Ram

I wonder how much and of what purpose, will it be main ram or just embedded on the GPU. Also I'm curious as to the speeds of their latest memory.

so Revolution *is* getting 1T-SRAM.

okay, you probably don't know or remember this, but, back in 1999 and upto August 2000, the Nintendo Dolphin, which ARTX was the central hardware developer of, was supposed to get 8 MB to 16 MB of embedded 1T-SRAM on that Flipper GPU -- but by Spaceworld in Aug 2000, that amount was cut to 3.12 MB.

(the main system memory was changed from 32~64 MB of NEC DRAM to 24 MB of MoSys 1T-SRAM)

Now we learn (from the above article) that MoSys is again back with Nintendo for the Gamecube's successor, the Revolution. there is almost no doubt that ATI West Coast, the Silicon Valley design center in Santa Clara, CA is working with MoSys and NEC to embedded some next generation 1T-SRAM onto Revolution's GPU codenamed Hollywood.

how much baby, that is the question! :D

Good news! Has Mosys refined their tech since GC's days? Or can we just expect "more"?

Thoughts on main memory provider? Elpida said they were in talks with Nintendo before..

hmm...
assuming the system launches mid 2006 like this information suggests, do you guys think nintendo will follow the DS launch formula and release the console in the north america first or stick with the tradtional jpn->na->eu formula they used in the past.

i think the NA launch (ahead of jpn) of the DS really helped it's worldwide installed base.

I don't at all take that as a historical fact. Rather I much more think that's just some wishful thinking IGN rumor.

I don't think it's just changed like that overnight. Rather, the overall system design hinges quite a lot on the type of memory used; number of buffers and internal caching needed etc... Considering how well-balanced GC is, I think mosys ram was intended from the outset, or at least pretty much so.

What's the role of Factor 5 this time, I know they helped with the development of the original GameCube hardware. They're busy recruiting all sorts of positions, such as engine and tools programmers, artists, programmers,... I wonder what they are up to. :)

According to Matt at IGN they're not working on anything Revolution-related, but in fact, are working on a X360 game.

You only get one guess at what game it is! =P

What is MoSys RAM exactly? I don't recall from the GameCube launch. How does it compare to GDDR3 as far as bandwidth/latency/price?

Isn´t F5 a NintendoDev(2nd-party?), can they jump ship like this??
If they release a game i hope it will be RougeSquadron4, please 8)

Mid-2006 for Japan?
So does this mean they're releasing the Revolution after the PS3?

maybe, maybe not. best guess is that PS3 is coming out early *or* mid 2006, which could be right around the time Revolution comes out in Japan.

both of them should be out in fall 2006 in the U.S. though.

Sure they can, Nintendo doesn't own them.

Oh god NO FFS! NO MORE GODDAMN STARWARS SHITE! :p

We've had enough of friggin snow speeders and tow cables now!

Little birdies are actually telling me that Xenon's DRAM is the same. No clue if there is any significance to that.
