*ren* PSN Down, Customer Info Compromised

Does anyone know if the 30 days free PS+ offer will expire if you don't use it soon? I would prefer not using until it comes with some stuff I actually want.

I'm not sure but I thought it was actually only active for June. After June it is going to be worthless. I'm fairly sure I read that, though not sure where - could be the sony FAQ on the subject.

I found this on the Playstation blog.

Q: How long do I have to get into the PlayStation Store and receive my content for Welcome Back?
A: Access to the Welcome Back content will be expiring on July 3. Once this date has passed, the Welcome Back section in the PlayStation Store will be removed.

I guess that means you'll only have the PS+ content until July 3rd. Regardless of when you activate it.

Yes. PS+ (BTW people, it's PlayStation Plus, not PlayStation Network Plus, so lose the PSN+ already :p) is a content services offering a mix of discounts on content you purchase, and effectually free rentals. Anything that's free is lost when the subscription lapses, whereas anything you've bought, regardless of how much discount there is (though not 100% as that's not a purchase), is yours to keep.
Hmm, I buckled and bought 12+3 months [strike]PSN+[/strike] PS+ in hope of getting and keeping those freebies.

Incidentally, how does your PS3 know when your subscription expires? Does it have a record internally, or is it an online check? If that latter, presumably not connecting to the internet with your PS3 would mean you could keep free content until such time as you do go online and your status is updated.
if you keep it offline you might be able to turn back the clock (literally), unless Sony thought of better ways to expire your certificates.

I don't think that's right cornsnake I think. All that means is you only have till July 3rd to activate it. Not that it will expire then.

Hopefully. There's no reason for me to activate it now anyway, since there's nothing on offer that I like.

This is a major PITA TBH!

Firstly I don't seem to have the option for the PSP games (even tho I purchased PSP LBP via PSN).

Secondly I got a free copy of infamous and wasn't 100% whether to pick Wipeout or Dead Nation but it seems I can have neither now as my 'free games' are not listed - seems like a 'one time' offer?

Thirdly PSN games don't work with disk game saves - so much as I'd love to declutter infamous & burnout - I can't!

Forthly(!) I went to the US store and managed to fudge the UK mess by buying Dead Nation, but because I didn't d/l straight away and logged off the store and then back in it seems my free game went AWOL so I had to "rebuy" Dead Nation as my 2nd free game!

Fifthly(!!) I seem to have PSP games on the US store, but IIRC you can only have your PSP registered to one account

I think that's everything lol I won't go into the hassle of having to reset all my (anbd my kids) accounts via email, what a PITA that was - still, at least I managed to snag Wipeout off my daughters freebie list!

The Save games is not unexpected and. Unless you think that the programmers expected people to buy 2 copies of their games. Annoying.. yes :)

Anyway, read this and you might get lucky:

Q: I no longer have the option to choose my free Welcome Back games. What can I do?
A: If you navigate away from the Welcome Back section of the store without choosing your free games or exit the store completely you may need to follow the below in order to choose and download your free games.
On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB
Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List
Choose “PlayStation Network Promotions” from the list of services displayed
Select either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”

The text above worked for me on the German (Hustle kings) and EU store (LBP), US has a completely different system.

thanks tfk, that did help getting my remaining free PS3 game. (in the US account the promo is called a bit different but worked the same)

Is is just me or does every second press of a button result in a network error in PSN today?

Thanks. However WRT the game saves I think they should relax the 'protection' on them - it's a pain, if I love a game I may like to buy it digitally so I can keep it forever or just find space on my shelf (I'd love digital versions of Uncharted and Red Dead Redemption) however I can't because of this stupid save system.

It's not so much a protection issue, but that disc based and download versions of games just have a different game code internally. Save games are linked to that code and so they don't recognise each other. It would be nice if they could find a solution for that though.

I agree on the save system but i think this is an extraordinary situation that might actually make some of the developers think about the issues. In regards to keeping them forever, the disc is best for that :)

There were PSP games for every region. Are you trying to download from the PSP or the PS# as I'm not sure if the PS3 recognizes it. Also from what I heard it only seems like you can get PSP games from one region as it appears when you link your PSP with one account it delinks it from the others.

you sure it was that way before PSN went down?

I've no reason to link the PSP to the US account, all my content for the PSP is for UK - I bought LBP and since then haven't even contemplated messing with the PSP account setup...interestingly I just did a bit of messing about, my Minis work (and I can xfer from my PS3 UK account content) - however I did buy a US mini and even when logged into that account it won't allow me to xfer to my PSP due to restrictions...seems conclusive to me that the PSP is on my UK account!

Just updating the firmware on it but need the batt top xharge up a bit then I will go to the store via my PSP to see what happens.

BTW, if anyone has a US account with funds I can recommend Cubixx, for $1 it's a steal!
