In the intelligence business their is something caused Black intelligence. You use it for two reasons, one would be to provide your enemy with information that they will act on in areas that you don't care about, hoping they will waste resources. The other is to identify where you have a possible leak.

The inquirer is great to use because they will print anything and personally I think both sides are pushing out a lot of Black Intelligence this round.

Then again sometimes I think Fudo has a split personality and uses himself as a source all the time by just making crap up.

I've already made the decision (last year) that I'm not upgrading my system until BTX PCI-E mainboards become available. In which case, I will buy a PCI-E card.

Have you seen any plans for PCI-E boards that are ATX form factor or are only BTX boards possible???


PCI-E information seems pretty scarce for such a big change happening so soon.

I think there will be a lot of ATX boards for PCIe. Intel wants to push BTX because they need the extra cooling for their upcoming CPU's, but the Far Eastern motherboard manufacturers arn't that impressed and want to stick with ATX, and thus keep current PSU's and cases.

Better in "apples-to-apples" at both, it can lose to the nV40 in D3 under the right circumstances running the custom nVidia path and in HL2 it will be undisputed king. 8)

The X800 will freaking own Far Cry for a while, there's some serious performance problems with FC & nVidia hardware right now on high or better detail settings and until that is resolved it will be kind of like the TR:AOD benchmark battle....with ATi still the top dog by a good margin.

You know that won't do. X800 ?? Pro, or XT ? If it's the XT then the rumors talking about 15% better perfomance than the tested NV40s seem to be true. Still where does that put the Pro part ? I cannot imagine the 12 pipe part with 450 mhz memory getting 15.000 marks...but never say never

Its always possible it will go down that way..

But if that is based in any way on R3xx vs NV3x it might not be.. uhm..
based on correct assumptions, or how to put it in..

If the story behind the NV3x is true, then in short it means it wasnt built
to run what DX9 turned out to be..
That means its not necessarly BAD, just doing something it wasnt meant
to do, and thus doing it very badly..
Which ofcource makes it from consumer point of view, a bad card since
its not good at doing what you are paying for..

Again, IF that is the truth, then if safe to assume that the NV40 isnt suffering
from the same issue with nonstandard shaders, and shouldnt be viewed
in the light of Nv3x..

With that said there is still the chance R420 might be faster, after all their
R3xx was a solid DX9 performer, but who knows who would have done
it faster in the last gen if everything had panned out in another way..
And if the story is true, then it was noone but Nvidias own fault by
arrogance..
But, it might just be some fairytale someone made up and spread around..

but wasn't Far Cry TWIMTBP game? I started it just once yesterday and I am not sure if that was the case...

I thought Crytek even did a GF3 demo, what could have gone so wrong there?

I just remember that Crytek guy mentioning PS 2.0 and 3.0 can do this - making a dent in Nvidia 3.0 shader is soo much better and it's available now on NV40 only statements, during the launch...

the farcry engine was once the X-isle techdemo for Geforce3 hehe..
its still on nvidias site.. was opengl back then, still seems to have
opengl support, wouldnt work on my 9700pro tho..
