Oh great unmoronic one please let the morons know who they are so they can leave and appease the enlightened.

 Ah, ha, ha, ha.

And the .13 low part they did had a fraction of the transisters of the X800 and that part maxed out around the 600mhz mark with overclockers. I seriously doubt with 3 x the transisters they've be able to hit 600mhz. 500mhz is doable i think but 600mhz would have to be a refresh part with some serious tweaking of the process and speed binning, even then it would be very tough. Plus lets not forget that ATI is always a tad conservative when it comes to clocking their parts for yields and oem concerns, they're not as ruthless as nvidia are when it comes to clocks in the past.

But the 9600 was a brand new chip. ATI achieved some huge feats for a chip that didn't have an exceptionally long development time.

I have no doubt they have matured the process greatly, and will be able to do some amazing things.

Seriously now, who here thinks that the X800 Pro will turn out faster than 6800 Ultra ?

Maybe not faster overall, but extremely competitive. Only because AFAIK it'll be like this for a bit:

X800 Pro vs 6800 Ultra
X800 XT vs 6800 not-released-yet (475/600MHz - A2 stepping?)

One thing that did suprise me a little regarding recent scuttlebutt is that R420 VS is apparently R3x0 and not R400/R5x0-based. Goes against a few seemingly reliable indications we've had in the past. Plus there are some mutterings as to how ATi have mated 16 pixel pipes with 6 vertex units. 12 with 6 works well, but there may be some efficiency issues with the XT (something nV have overcome?).

You reckon people limited to 1024x768 might be wise to take an R420 over NV40 regardless of overall performance? At that resolution the latter's FSAA limitations are going to be really frustrating and the smart money's on R4x0 featuring some pretty sexy new FSAA modes.

MuFu.

OT:perhaps we can get an old priest and a young priest and drive the 'evil spirits' out of this thread. That or maybe the mods need to start employing the banstick.

On Topic: for all the people thinking that ATI wouldn't release an XT if the Pro was faster than the 6800U. The rumours also give the nvidia the checkbox advantage for this round, if performance is close more people would still be inclined to purchase the nv40. I expect they would want a good 10% or more margin across the board to ensure preventing checkbox features giving nvidia 'wins'.

I don't visit our forums often enough nowadays but when I do, I have to trawl through 12 pages like this thread in this particular forum after all the warnings given by us?
