Hi everyone and good morning. I have came here to research the Wii hardware. Snooping around the forums I've been reading up on the hardware. There are some questions about the Wii that I want to address.
1)There is a dsp that was talked about. What does this do? I find that it isn't a audio dsp.
2)How are the Wii development kits different from the commercial units?
3)Are the launch titles mainly developed on the modified GC developments?
4)What are the extra transistors used for on the GPU?
5)Can the Wii run Unreal Engine 3.0(a mac PPC converted version) if... a)Rendered absolutely no polygons(This is possible but I need a patent for it.)
b)Had enough RAM(say about 1,600,000 times more .This is also possible but I need a patent for it. )
c)Running at 32fps or 24fps
d)locked at 420p
e)dynamically scaling pixels/polygons/texture resolution and size based on distance (with motion blur etc)
6)Is the GPU comparable to a Geforce 7800GTX?
7)What is the max amount of polygons Wii can output per second?(in-game Vs artificial/ideal)
8)How many one-color(one red,one green, one blue, 3 greyscale) transparent sprites can a modern PC or game console can run on screen?
9)(hypothetical) If Wii could play almost all PC games?(even high-end games) How will it change the way it is seen to the non-gamer audience and the hardcore gamer audience? With the Wii hardware being $250 compared to say a $2500+ gaming PC setup.
10)If the Wii doubled as a mini emulated PC(Using a Pentium Celeron dongle for emulation. What is the latency for that and is that even possible? Or do you need a P4 Celeron in the first place? Is there a way to efficiently emulate Pentium registers).
I know these questions are mostly noob pipe dream rambling but much help is appreciated.
