PSP's Wifi uses

The patent application talks about downloading games at hot spots or from "servers" which could be computers or consoles, which would preprocess code and communicate wirelessly with the PSP, which would handle audio and video locally.

The preprocessing idea seems as fanciful as the idea of distributing processing over a network among devices with Cell chips.

But the downloading of games kind of echoes what Kaz Hirai has talked about as far as microtransactions in which people would pay to download new levels or characters as a way for game publishers to make money from online gaming on consoles.

Looks like they will use the Wifi for everything but actual online play (as opposed to LAN play).

In other news, Kutaragi said they are developing a way to make the PSP cell phones. He also said they would have things like web browsing functionality.

They may also license the UMD for development of AV devices by other companies but not for game media. Gee what a deal. I can see them lining up.

Considering there have been official moves on bringing at least one MMORPG to the PSP (at least as far as I know), I certainly imagine they'll be doing "online play" of some sort.

I rather doubt they'll do it the conventional way, though--so it may take a while to get things operational.

Meanwhile, there will likely be tunnel services galore popping up in the online community, so hey! ;)

maybe the wlan feature sucks more power then the batery can charge / minute?

i never watched the time when i'v put my psp in the charger howmany time it took but .. hmm..

huh, that sounds strange.
every card above 128 mb is a pro duo as far as i could see in the shops

i think that's a mistake. if I can copy and play MP3 files on my psp (sandisk 512 pro DUO) surely i can playback atrac3 files also

and if not... spank my ass and call me johny i dunno :?:

"ATRAC3plus data cannot be played or recorded using a Memory Stick PRO Duo. Use any MagicGate compatible Memory Stick Duo other than Memory Stick PRO Duo." says the manual I downloaded from that ign article.

It could be because of the copy protection, if the PRO Duo cards are not "Magic Gate" cards.

Silly limitation, again they are shooting themselves in the leg with this, at least when it comes to their "Sonic Stage" music shop.

At least I won't then be using Sonic Stage and their ATRAC format, but stick with mp3 and a 1Gig card that I hope to buy with the PSP as it gets here.

... now come over here and bend over hey69... or should I say johny ;)

just spank me you don't have to say anything ;)
( i better hope you have giant tities )
