I was referring to the handheld world, as were the ones that listed gameboy beating sega and all the other companies.

Yes i was joking . If the product is no good sony will not sell systems . Sure at the begining they will. But soon enough people will learn the system sucks. The game gear went through batterys every 6 hours. It sold well when it first came out but as people became aware of this it stop selling. Neo geo didn't have enough games . Lynx too went through batterys way to fast. Wonderswan... did this even come out ? I don't remember. But nintendo allways knew that battery life was very important. That is why the gba did not have a backlit screen. Now it does because they were able to reduce the pwoer consumption of the chips and the screen to the point where they could use a backlight.

All i know is at the end of the day if they need to get rid of the wan , 7.1 sound and the other bells and whistles to get 12 hours of play time then i would rather have that then those features.

Sometimes when you take a huge leap you'll find your self falling of the cliff. Where taking baby steps would let you get to the other side.

Sony products will just sell on the name sony. Sure while it would eventually burn out if it truly sucked, it does not have to beat the next gameboy(or the current one) to outsell it with the name sony. Now, I wouldn't expect it to quite turn out like that world wide, but in America sony could outsell nintendo without having better games or better hardware, image matters more otherwise enter the matrix wouldn't sell as well as it does/did.

BTW, I had a game gear, and I believe it was 2-6 hours, not just 6 hours as sometimes that thing couldn't even last a car trip. The sega nomad was more like 2-4 hours, but that thing was too big and too overpriced to have a chance.($200 to play all my old genesis games from 5 years ago or something rougly the size of the 32x? ok......I bought it and the 32x, but not until later when I could get both relatively cheap and still new) Oh yeah, another complaint I had about a lot of old portables is that they weren't comfortable to hold, the gameboy advance isn't either but at least it fits in my hands and doesn't weigh a few pounds.

Sony had to release the mini disc 3 times in north america and it still hasn't taken off the way they wanted it to. Sonys name means nothing once word spreads about the product. It will only help sell the first few million units . If you loved square games and then xenosaga 3 came out and it was teh worse rpg every how many copys do you tihnk it sell once word got around.

Well, how about the playstation name then?

Anyhow, yes, if they have the worst games ever it will fail, but they still don't need to beat the gameboy in quality games to beat it. Heck, if PSP had awesome 3d graphics and so-so games, it would probably beat out the next GBA if it is 2d only, quality generally isn't something people can tell by the packaging(unless it is really beat up/shoddy). The PSP doesn't have to be fantastic to succeed, it just has to be good enough to enjoy, so once the first few million are sold on the sony playstation brand, people will say it's good and more will buy it without ever taking a look at the competition.

mostly agree here. the fact is that as long as it's not "the worst ever", but acceptable enough not to be hated by people, it will sell. anything better than "little more than acceptable" is all a bonus...
