PSP-2000 hardware teardown

I'm guessing this is the edition that may well sell a few million. ;)

I'm guessing this is the edition that may well sell a few million. ;)

Only 7,777 being made, IIRC. Play-Asia has them available for import for $399. A bit too expensive for my taste. I would probably go for $250 or maybe even $300. But I can't justify $400 to myself.

EDIT

Either my memory's bad (could definitely be the case) or they've bumped it up to 77,777 units.

EDIT 2

I'm assuming, of course, that you were talking about the FFVII CC Edition PSP.

The original PSP design (PSP-1003) really hurts my hands after a few hours usage.... so I picked up a PSP Slim & Light (PSP-2003 in piano black) today.

Just waiting for the battery to charge up, to find out if comfort level is better.

I never could play the original PSP when I was lying on my back facing upwards. The unit just was a little too heavy to be comfortable for that. This could solve it. A friend of mine got one, so I'll check that one out. It's not a biggy though - I'd like the new version, but I think I can also live with my old. ;)

This is probably a great time for people to pick up a cheap 2nd hand one, because I know a few people are selling theirs to get a slim one.

@Gradthrawn: if that is so, then yes, I suppose that could hamper it from reaching a few million. :D

I'm waiting for thewhite one. Black looks awesome, but only up until a person gets his fgreasy paws upon it.

Peace.

I just bought the ceramic white one today. I have to say it does look a little cheap. Like cheap soft paint over a plastic shell. I hope it doesn't start chipping off! I think I should have bought the silver one instead. I think that has a non shiny more textured paint on it.

Still... it is just paint instead of a nice hard quality plastic.

Other than that I am quite liking it. The buttons feel good. It's very light. And I'm looking forward to using the video out once I get the cable for it.

Since the black hads the paint on the INSIDE of the shell (like with the DS) I think the white should be the same.

Dunno the silver one. If the paint is on the outside it'll scratch and chip easily. I've not seen a silver in the flesh and I've been reluctant to buy one myself because of the potential scratching issue. I have some silver-colored PC mice and remotes that have discolored with use.

Peace.

Yeah, I was just thinking 'that's weird, have they changed the PSP that much, that they don't use a clear outer shell with the paint on the inside? Well then again maybe not everywhere ...

I'd not soon go for silver. Almost every silver thing I know loses the paint far too easily, and even on the PSP you do have parts like the battery cap that would be exposed to wear and tear.

Yeah; the rear side of the PSP has never been clear with paint on the inside; like the insides of the DS when you flip it open..

I'd be afraid to put a silver PSP down for fear of scratching the paint.

Gonna buy a white one, though I don' have the money right now. Bought games and mice instead, gotta wait until next month for the PSP.
Peace.

I saw the silver version today, held it in my hand. The casing IS clear acrylic spraypainted silver-metallic ON THE INSIDE.

Both front and rear sides have the same clear slick shiny awesome image quality with full AA/AF going!

Looks really REALLY good actually.

Now I want silver more than white...

Peace.

Coz that can't match the luster the casing attains. You need to see it yourself, it looks totally rad.

Or is that too 80s of an expression? :p

Peace.

Ha. no though I did have an NES and Zelda. It was fun blowing in the cartridges till it finally gave up the ghost soon after we got a PS1.

Yeah I like the silver as well though I wish they would of released the CC version over here. Not that I could afford it being a dirt poor college kid at the moment but still.
