PSN weekly updates

What's the pricing going to be for PS3 Angry Birds (link blocked for me)?? It will be laughable it it's $5. With that said...Angry Birds is an amazingly fun and addicting.

Deathspank - These kind of games are right up my alley. This was very polished IMO. It's like Dungeon Siege meets Fable and WOW. Great amount of quests and side quests. Fun and challenging combat. Wide variety of weapons and items. Lot's of item collecting. Big map that has easy travel points. And...it's downright HILARIOUS. Comedy in video games rarely speaks to me, but this title sure does. Never takes itself too seriously and pokes a lot of fun at itself. I got about 12 hours of gameplay out of this title.

12?! I was done in 450 minutes. The loot was copius but also somewhat suprefluous. Like lots of these games the ideas seemed unbalanced and not really thought through. There are loads of potions and special items like firestorms and blackholes, but virtually no need to use any. The elemental crossbow bolts did less damage than my crossbow typically, and were a faf to use.
Lots of weapons but typically you equip the best physical weapons you can which do more damage than the elementals, and the elementals don't have much more effect than physical damage save for resistances. Charing the Weapons of Justice was a good idea, but lots of the Weapons of Justice were pointless AFAICS. The stun one had an obvious effect. The spinning one was the most devastating by far and one I used. Other big-hitters did about as much damage as my normal weapons, so what's the point? And the idea of combining weapon attacks in Attacks of Justice is great, but for all the runes' intriguing descriptions, they barely did anything that I found, save the Spinning attack with fire and ice. And again, combat didn't need it much of the time. Plenty of opportunity to eat the near limitless supply of food and quoff potions if you needed to, which is only if you're being reckless.

Don't get me wrong, it was a fun time-passer, but pretty shallow, and not at all difficult on medium setting. Button mashing galore was the order of the day; I even found the chained attacks a nuisance, as the bigger hits were slower and left me open to attack. I took to deliberately not chaining attacks when I was against a tough foe like the giants. The visuals and humour helped elevate beyond the mundane rather than the gameplay. And the humour was very funny in places. The thing that beats the big End-of-game Boss was pretty hilarious.

I swear that's Captain Quark. :D Not just the voice, but the personality too!

The single high point of the game (okay, so it does look quite nice as well). In terms of gameplay I just found it painfully boring. It's basically all the low points of Sacred2 with almost none of that game's high points (the endless depth of the character development process and the huge variety of environments and monsters)

I picked up Earthworm Jim HD 2 days ago. Still tough as nails, still slightly broken in places, but also still just as delighfully bonkers as it has always been. Jim is one of the few anthropomorphic animal heroes from the nineties that doesn't feel completely irrelevant in this day and age. Trophies are a real bitch, though.

Hoard added 4P co-op:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/08/20/hoard-coming-to-pax-four-player-co-op-confirmed/

Since our last post, we can confirm four-player co-op play has been added to the game — thanks for all the comments! That rounds our feature set out with Treasure, Princess Rush, Hoard (Survival), and Co-op modes. We support up to four dragons in any combination of couch and online players.

This is one game I hope can be "Moved". Would like to control my dragon like playing House.
Basically, the controller is the dragon. I can swoop or dive it any way I want. And breath fire by may be voice activation or trigger ?

The spiritual successor to Afrika: :)

Sony is packing Tokyo Jungle with playable animals of all sizes. Famitsu shows hippos, tigers, giraffes, elephants, crocodiles, foxes, beagles, cheetahs, chimpanzees, ostriches, bunnies, chickens and even tiny chicks.

Yes, it is possible to have a chicken face off against a tiger. Smaller animals will fight in groups, and you can win fights against larger creatures by just having one member of your group survive the fight.

It looks like you're going to have to build up your own pack of animals. This is easier for some plant eaters, which means you may not necessarily be at a disadvantage if you select a weaker type.

Famitsu says to expect 50 breeds and 80 types (I'm not sure what a "type" is). As you play through the game, you'll unlock additional playable animals.

In 20XX mankind left Earth leaving animals to fend for themselves. The once busy streets of Tokyo are now home to lions, tigers, and chickens. All of them are fighting for survival in this PlayStation 3 game developed by the creative PlayStation C.A.M.P. team inside Sony Computer Entertainment.

Tokyo Jungle has two modes: story and survival....

EDIT: Whoops, I thought it's a PSN game, may be not ! It's listed as PSN compatible (probably for multiplayer)

Japanese Import games coming to US PSN:
http://kotaku.com/5640254/the-playstation-store-to-start-selling-japanese-imports-this-month

A press release from MonkeyPaw Games indicates that Imports on the PlayStation Store is starting up on the PlayStation Network next week, with shooters Cho Aniki and GaiaSeed acting as launch titles for the new service.

We've heard a PlayStation Network import store talked about in rumors before, but this is the first concrete information we can recall seeing about the service (see update below), which will allow North American players to purchase Japanese titles directly through PSN in their original form.

According to MonkeyPaw Games, the service launches on September 21, and will give games that never made it overseas a chance to shine. Games like Cho Aniki, the bizarre shooter filled with half naked men and the pulsing techno beat of GaiaSeed.

There's a "3D License" on the JP PSN store for Ridge Racer 7 (for 500 Yen, ~6 USD). I haven't heard anything about this until now.

For US folks:

Starting this weekend on Saturday, Sony will update the PlayStation Store with a free movie rental which is part of their brand new "Midnight Movies" promotion. In order to get the free movie you will have to sign onto the Playstation Network between the times of 8PM and 6AM EST.

The featured movie of the week is Bram Stroker’s Dracula.

Damn Damn Damn ! Every time I switch on my PS3 there's a damn update that needs to be done  ! How many times do we have update Sony ?! I hardly get time for it, and when I do, I have to bloody update :devilish::devilish::devilish: !

I do not understand why people keep complaining about this? Yes its a bit annoying, but still its not like its a new update every day.

And if you look at the reason for updates, are they not good reasons? I mean should we have no updates instead then?

I think what he's saying is: When he doesn't play his PS3 often enough, he needs to do quite a few updates before he can start playing.

There's nothing wrong with updates my friend. And no, they don't come everyday. But recently they have been too frequent, the last three ones. apparently, you switch on ur ps3 everyday, these days, I don't. And if you switch on ur ps3 only once a month, and that too you have limited time with you to play, and you realise that that time would just go waste in updating that damn thing , you do get angry ! If it happens three times in a row, you get infuriated :devilish: !My having downgraded my net speed this month isn't helping either. it simply means my dream of playing today are gone. maybe next Sunday  !

My post is a vent of emotions not a public outcry against updates.

Free on INdian Store too. But does anyone have Ridge Racer  ?
I do have it, and liked it very much! Haven't played it in ages, should try it again. It's Ridge Racer, one of the few games that still get me into the 'zone'.
It'd be interesting to play it in 3D, but I don't think I'll be able to get me a 3D tv this year, maybe better so, to let the tech mature a bit (don't really like LCD's ghosting in 3D).
