PSN weekly updates

I tried the Dark Void demo...graphics are nothing special (some hefty screen tearing)...I did not like the flight mechanics very much, but the ground based shooting is directly borrowed from Gears of War and so it was rather good. Seems to be an interesting mix, but nowadays a game must convince me with its graphics as well...

I was actually quite intrigued by Dark Void ... until I played the demo that is. No sense of speed while you are flying and I didn't really like the shooting either (combination of somewhat wonky controls and bullet sponge enemies). It also took about a minute to hijack one of the flying saucer thingies via some sort of annoying QTEs while you could have blown them all out of the sky in mere seconds for the same result. Also, if you absolutely have to put Nolan North in every single game from now on at least have him portray a character that isn't a blatant Nathan Drake rip-off.
Worked well enough with the other members of the Uncharted 2 cast (both the British guy who voiced Flynn and Claudia Black were also in Dragon Age, and they were perfect)
Thank god screen tearing was never a big issue for me.

Just tried the new Zen Pinball table, and it's really good! Highly recommend it - quite different from most of the other tables, but it looks and sounds great. It's just so awesome to be able to get a new pinball table for 1,99 euro, while back in the day for that price you had two credits.

$5 for 4 tables is a steal. . .really satisfied with this pickup, especially being able to play custom soundtracks.

Slayer's "Reign In Blood" was made for pinball (as is most 80's thrash). . .sad they never got their own table.

=)

Seems like pinball would be a good candidate for the LBP treatment (i.e. editor + user content). Maybe after Modnation Racers?

Cheers

Q-Entertainment asking for feedback: Would you pay $15 for Rez-HD ?
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/01/28/would-you-pay-15-for-rez-hd-on-psn/

We’re just relaying their tweet from last night. Before you answer, Rez HD is only $10 on Xbox Live Arcade. Not saying Rez HD isn’t worth $15, but there is a price discrepancy between consoles. Q Entertainment’s lead tweeter says, “if you don’t already have the 360/PS2/DC version, $15 is a small price to pay.”

Why the premium price? These under 140 character statements sort explain Q Entertainment’s position. “After Sega’s cut etc. We’d have to sell a lot of copies to even break even, and we could always drop a price, but never raise it.” “If we did it, it would not be a huge profit most likely and unfortunately we’re not big enough to do things for fun.”

Fret Nice

Interesting concept:

A platformer you play with a guitar controller, that’s the concept of Fret Nice. Fret Nice started off as a degree thesis project. Then it became an IGF finalist and after that Tecmo purchased Fret Nice, hoping to start a series out of it.

On February 4 (this Thursday), Fret Nice will be available on PlayStation Network with cardboard cutout style graphics for $14.99.

Makes me want to own a guitar controller (but I don't like those things. :)).

Also, there seems to be a mini-adventure in the Style of Heavy Rain that started on the web last week, and finds continuation this week in Home, apparently. User feedback seems very positive.

Its confirmed that Heavy Rain & AvP demo is coming in this update.
