PS4 Preparing to download....

Initially you had to re-download the previous patches at each new patch. So they had to implement hack a way to make the system download just the update the game version really needed.

I read that it was not easy to find a way while being compatible with the old update system. I blame regression testing. :yep2:
 
That would explain it.

They scan my local files and do a version check with the files on the server and then queues for download the files I need. But :(
 
I haven't noticed it as being very long for anything, but it makes sense if the system checks the local files against the server somehow, that this is affected by the system overload that the black friday boost in installbase recently caused, so people could have been experiencing much bigger slowdowns here than they are used to in the last week.

Why wouldn't they do this like most games do on PC? Just a small text/ini file that has a record of patches. Then you just download whatever new patches haven't been downloaded/installed. Seems so strange that they used to re-download all patches. That would be such a huge waste of internet bandwidth.
