PS4 / DS4 controller related lag / latency issues

Nope. It kind of just went away and didn't return. To be fair, I only really noticed it when playing BF4 (Battlefield 4) competitively online. My gaming has reduced significantly to the point I only play a bit of Fusion Trials and Witcher 3 here and there. In both these games, I haven't come across the issue anymore. Witcher would be a bad example because it's a slower paced game as opposed to when I had the issue with Battlefield. Then again, I haven't played for those prolonged hours and rarely used the headset since, which, when I read this topic and my older post, was one of the things it required it to happen in the first place.

But I do feel that after my last post in here, it kind of went away. Not sure if this was due to an update or some other interference simply going away.

I'm not sure now, but I think I read somewhere that the Dualshock transmits its data over bluetooth irregardless if its plugged in through USB or not. The USB is only there to charge the controller.... Not sure if this is either accurate or true. Wouldn't make sense in regards to the latency issues being solved when plugged in. Unfortunately I never tried back then if it made a difference plugging in the controller into a USB charger or connecting it with a USB with the console... It would be what I would advice you to test though if you experience the latency issues on a regular, almost predictable basis. If it goes away either way, it may be power related. If it only goes away when connecting directly to the PS4, make note if it goes away because of you connecting it through the USB port or because you may have reduced the distance to your PS4. It could be due to either. That's what I would check for to pin point the issue...
Hi Phil, do you manage to resolve the issue? I have this issue with my ps4, I tried with different position , I even put an antenna to the console without results, I notice that the problem agravates when battery is getting discharged. I'm desperate about this, it happens even when without headset. Thanks in advance

Anecdote that does not solve your problem sadly, but still a related story.

The X360 also uses 2.4 GHz FSSH but it's not bluetooth, but it has similar behaviour. A developer that had 200 pcs of X360 running on a floor had serious problems with their wireless X360 controllers. Some guy from Metageek went over there, did a spectrum scan and the spectrum was full. Ie even though the controllers jumped very often, the problem was that there was so many that the frequency range was saturated and they created interference issues for each other. Only solution was to wire up the controllers.

Which I think is the easiest way for you guys also, wire your controller to your console.
If not you need to get hold of some expensive gear and software and check the spectrum to see if there is any other RF sources that use/pollute the are that the controller uses to send its signals.

can you actually 'wire up' a DS4 though? I thought there is only charging, no communication with the console?
Anyway has a link?

Yes you can connect a DS4 using the USB cable.

I tried to test this once but the bluetooth device 'serials'? were still broadcasting, the PS4 I understand but the controller should go silent no?

You'd have to ask Sony what they intended it to do but if the cable drops out you can carry on seamlessly if the Bluetooth connection is persistent.

I don't want to be rude, but let's be real: you guys don't have any proof regarding the DS4 being able to operate with PS4 in a wired ( non-bluetooth) fashion, is that correct?

I misunderstood your question. You're asking if when you connect the DS4 to the PS4 with a USB cable does it communicate with the PS4 using USB instead of Bluetooth? To answer that, I don't know. But you can test this yourself easily enough with a USB bus analyser. It would be an odd omission given PS4's Safe Mode wants a wired controller for input.

To my understanding other people have done this, and the DS4 can only operate wirelessly with PS4, except for the synching procedure as well as recovery mode.
I asked because I thought something might have changed, but I can't find any recent source, aside from your and JPT's suggestion

Plug ds4 via USB to pc.

It works without Bluetooth.

On ps4, you can easily test it by doing voice chat.

If its randomly cut out = on wireless (just make sure to put a bunch of wireless WiFi near it, one cheap Chinese Bluetooth speaker and do some cooking with microwave)
If it's pristine perfect = on cable

To be clear, when you connect ds4 via USB to ps4, it doesn't always use usb. Dunno why.

Sometime I will get that audio cutout even when on usb. Replugging it do the trick though.

Buggy software?

so no proof then, thanks!

actually its a proof that PS4 do able to connect via USB and able to seamslessly switch to wireless when needed (i suspect my USB cable is losing its connection randomly because just yesterday its stopped working at all).

its impossible for the wireless connection to be pristine perfect with 3 wifi accesspoint blaring right beside it, plus a cheapass chineese bluetooth speaker, plus a microwave.

EDIT:
heck, the cheapass bluetooth speaker alone able to destroyes not only bluetooth but also wifi

my tablet wifi went completely "poof" when i used my cheapass chinese bluetooth speaker. While my phone WiFi barely connected (opening web pages took ages, youtube impossiuble) despite the signal still saying 3 bars.

i cant even stream to my home theatre via bluetooth when that cheapass chinese bluetooth speaker is still on on OTHER ROOM.

EDIT2:

if i remember correctly, PS4 in recovery mode also only works with WIRED gamepad.

you are actually the only person on the whole internet who is claiming this. please contact Sony because the engineers don't know it themselves

What on earth are you on about?

Just hook a DS4 up to a PC without bluetooth. It works. End of story. So yes, to reiterate: DS4 does support USB communication. Again: end of story. No "proof" or "links" needed. It works. End of story.

Okay?
