PS3 to get PVR functionality with TV tuner add-on

What? Does the ABC now have advertisements? I guess it always was a bit "underfunded" (I remember when it stated that taxpayers paid ~8c/day) so the programming is not going to be as good.

Having said that, even the commercial stations in the UK have relatively few adverts and they are generally well spread out.

No, it doesn't have advertisements. SBS has intrashow ads now though.

My Direct TV DVR is much quieter and will record even when it is "off." It costs $6 a month to use. It has a 250 GB hard drive and can record two HD channels. Plus of course, it gives you access to all the content that an OTA DVR couldn't.

Meanwhile at least in most of California, you can get AT&T IPTV, using Microsoft's platform. I believe they're still limited to one HD channel at a time. Their bundled pricing isn't that much better than getting satellite TV and cable Internet.
In the UK, DVR's are in the region of £100 cheap. The cheapest I've found with a quick look is £85. IPTV seems implausible while many are on 2 Meg broadband tops and have no hope of an upgrade in years (phone exchange is a limiting factor for me, and isn't being upgraded any time ever according to BT ). A £30 adaptor for a PS3 would be a lot more useful and affordable than the alternatives. Especially if Sony manage their thermal throttling a bit better. DVR functions don't need the machine burning maximum calories!

In France, we have adsl box, from our adsl providers ,give us free PVR and also free TV on PC for most of the channels… so don't see interests for this fonction on the french market… it's like the AppleTV ;)

What's the resolution for that service?
