PS3 owners give impressions, details

Gah, to save time Tap In, any particular bits that struck you as interesting?

here's a couple

hanks for all the impressions champ! How is the unit running? Has the amount of heat exhaustion increased?

the unit is quite warm when you pick it up after a few hours usage, but nothing out of the ordinary and, of course, the unit is pretty much totally silent, so it's quite the technical little wizard!

I've had two "crashes" so far.

Once when running Youtube
and i had a futher issue where the machine couldn't recognise any of my games (reset fixed that one!)

there is no motorstorm demo yet

I attached a USB drive, it is NOT detected.
well, it's still unfair to call it with so little real play time , but feck it i will anyways...

the launch games are a bit lackluster to be quite honest, Ridge is great but given that it's not wildly different from X360 version, then that equates to one less game to get excited about.

Resistance is the cream of the crop, Genji is average-to-good, and Gundam... oh lord... sub 30fps, terrible scenery/explosions etc, basic presentation (i mean, early Spectrum levels here!), awful gameplay, bad controls....

I'm saving Golf for another day when i need a good laugh!

but yes, whilst the games line up lacks a certain something , whilst it's still early days on the download front and despite some niggles in the setup procedure, i'm VERY impressed with the machine and EXTREMELY impressed with the XMB/Interface - which is a very welcome surprise (although not being able to drop into XMB from within a game to check messages is a bit of an oversight (unless you can do it and i'm just being a mong?))

So - yes - very excited about the future of the PS3.

pic of messaging screen here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4819712&postcount=451

the messaging thing might get a little bit cluttered sometime in the future, but i'm digging the little notification bubble!
wow - at the backwards compatability....

Internal Section (Ps1) - does initial positron splash, and then warning, then dies
Monster Hunter (Ps2) - stretches image, looks like garbage, video seems to be running at one tenth the resolution it should be...

what the hell???

I thought I read that you have to set the system to 480i/p to get it not to stretch?

sounds like a pain in the ass to do - why can't the system figure this out? :/
ah well, i don't expect to be playing too many PS2 games.

*confirmed that regioning is still in force by the way*

im using the USB keyboard , but when you enter text, the box still comes up so , for instance, on a PC i just type in this message box.

On the PS3 browser, i clikc on the message box and a text entry panel like on the PSP comes up that then puts text into the message box after you have finished.

Games : i bought them all

Cool thanks. When I have more time I'll check it out myself.

To be honest, some ups & some downs there but nothing that surprising. Games = good to patchy but nice to hear the XMB is as good as the early impressions of it were. I'm seeing a PSP like upgrade path - woohoo! :)

Just in case you're importing, you need to say what country you live in and not what country you bought the console from because it will be in the language of what country you say and you can apparantly only use a credit card from that country in the playstation store.

In GameOS ? Might need to create the relevant directories (like PSP). e.g., PHOTO, MUSIC, ...
before the console shows it in XMB. They should hook it up to a PSP to see if the portable media is shown.

yes gofreak pointed that out to him as a possible solution but it has not yet been tested again

I think the language thing only applies to the playstation store, which kinda makes sense as they are doing everything locally (currency for example). Everything else seems to be in the language you set it.

Oh, so the country you say you're from only says what kind of credit card you can use?

Not really sure about the credit cards. From my understanding only specific japanese credit cards are only in use now, but it sounds like it will change after the NA & EU launch. Hopefully for the importers if you select Europe, you can use Europe credit cards.

I was referring to the rest of the language barriers, such as the menu and in-game stuff. Playstation store seems to be the only thing affected by this currently.

yes - 1080p makes a MASSIVE difference. In 720p, it's the same as the X360.

Also - RR7 is the -only- 1080p game at launch.

i can only chose japan as my country of residence for my online account... and because of that i can only select Japanese as my language... arse.

Quote:
1) Can you choose language options in Resistance or RR7?

defaults to the system language - so both have english

Quote:
2) Can the main menu be set in "english"?, is just the sony store the one that is fixed to japanese right?

yes, and that's right.

I'm still confused about the Language/online account info...

I'm still confused about the Language/online account info...

It is likely that there are only active PNP servers for Japan right now. As such, when sighing up for an online account, there is only 1 region that can be chosen, Japan (regardless of what language you have selected for the system). When the servers for other regions come online, I would guess that only then can the different regions be chosen when sighing up for an online account. That's all just my speculation, nothing to back it up.

That makes sense. I think Phill harrison said NA servers would go online on the 17th as expected, and that Europe people would be able to register their names on the 17th as well.

i'l try to do some monday when i receive my ps3 with RR7 (Resistance is following wednesday)

btw, i still have to figure out if it needs a stepdown convertor or not (live in belgium)
My gut says no, but then again.. i'm not 100% (powerblock clearly says 100v-220v)

ok received my PS3 . I hooked everything up in my CAR
