PS3 firmware 4.45 bricking consoles

I updated to 4.45 with no issues when it was first released (wasn't aware of the reported issues at the time). PS+ auto-downloaded 4.46 and it installed with no issues. That's on my Slim. Haven't tried it on an original yet (and I don't have a Super Slim).
